The Jacaranda tree (second picture) with a granite base is now in place in Gawler Place North, as are some of the other trees. Should look nice when the trees mature some more.

I've had the chance to walk some of the completed laneways and street makeovers over the last week, to see how they have developed over the last couple of years. A quick update:

Bank Street - looks good. Trees have grown and several cafes now making use of their new space. One of the new trees on the eastern side is missing but this appears to have been continuously damaged by deliveries.

Topham Mall - (picture 1st above) the new plantings have matured and The Noble Gentleman is now open on the lane also. Some of the vines are doing ok but others are struggling - I wonder if the city council will need to give them a kick along somehow.

Waywouth Street - (picture 2nd above) the new trees are doing well and there's now a lovely green boulevard along this short stretch. Again the cafes are making the most of their new space. However, some of the mortar between the new paving stones is already cracked - perhaps this will be fixed some day?

Gresham Street (picture 3rd above) I think the simple pavement improvements and greening has made a big difference. The plants are doing well which adds to a pleasant atmosphere on the laneway.

I’m back working in the CBD after 5.5 years in the burbs and I’m quite impressed with the laneway/streetscape changes.

Market to Riverbank link is looking (and feeling) great, plus there are improvements in other streets and laneways.

I also like the look (and usefulness) of the digital bus stops along the length of Grenfell/Currie St. Very nice. We should plant more trees along this street to turn it into a boulevard feel, and soak up some of the diesel fumes.

The Gawler Place upgrade should be great too once complete.

There a lot happening and a lot to be proud of about the Adelaide CBD ... growing up nicely.

Just on city laneways, it appears the proposal to cover Moonta St Chinatown has (thankfully) morphed into a proposal for an artwork/lighting canopy.

Replace the lifts, they are so old and digusting. The carpark areas could do with a touch of paint and replacement of lighting.

The poles for the raised planter....hangy....pergola thingies (not really sure what they are) are being installed on Gawler Place north.

All the trees are now planted in this section - makes a huge difference compared to what it looked like pre-upgrade:

They're calling it an 'arbour', although I would rather more actual trees at this end.

I imagine in a decade's time we'll probably see both the canopy and these arbours replaced to create a larger event area.

Found this little laneway at 43 Franklin Street, possibly called Penaluna Place.

Currie Street is really in need of a refurbishment with the proposal of 80 Currie Street, Sofitel, QT and 75-79 KWS.

Along with Grenfell St. Not only are the smack in the middle of the business district they’re also the chief public transport corridor — they deserve better.

I agree. The only thing is if Gawler Pl [both sides] cost $17m can you imagine what Currie & Grenfell St would cost? They are each prob 5x to 10x the size/bigger.
