Just some simple vines on a steel wire trellis will do.
Vines takes upward of ten years to fully grow and when they do they bring with them amass of spider and dead leaves... Hardly the kind of thing that one would want around outdoor dining. Furthermore, they wouldn't grow in that kind of space, it's too sunless and cold.

The flappy things are still badly folded today from the wind. There was 3 guys with a ladder under them this afternoon.

There are already flappy things used successfully in Victoria Square, but they are made from a completely different material.

In person, you can form a different opinion because (breeze permitting) they are in motion. I like them, but I saw them in motion.

Also "flappy things" is the best technical description I have seen.

The ones in Victoria Square are much better looking and clearly hold their shape in windy weather, I wouldn't be surprised if they are repeated in Topham Mall.

Topham Mall is a little more protected from the wind so it might turn out better... maybe? :?

Based on the photo that AndyWelsh posted, I highly doubt it....

Yeah they’re not protected from the wind. I took a video that I posted a few comments back.

Maybe this material was cheaper or easier to source than the one used in Victoria Square but they need to all be taken down now IMO and replaced. They surely can’t stay up all crumpled and folded up.....can they?!

Unless somebody has some serious ego issues with their flaps. I doubt they'll be kept up.

Innuendo intended

They need to replace it with better quality material like the Vic Sq ones, and have it less droopy .... problem solved

Went through Topham yesterday. It looks great. Was particularly impressed with the artsy touch to the concrete blocks.

But by dear God, the flaps. They're supremely awful.

Never seen so many men hating on flaps. There's a first for everything I guess!
