Bank Street looks absolutely fabulous. I love what they've done with the street.

Banks st looks great, and I was impressed at how quickly it was done. I like how a few trees, some paint and seating changes an ugly side street into a nice public space, this and Leigh Street have made that part of the city feel much safer and more inviting.

I had a look through as i walked to the train after work tonight.

The parklets with the mix of steel, timber and trees look amazing. Touches like the blue road just add to the feel of the street.

I like it also. Great project that was most likely not that expensive as it didn't involve ripping up roads, kerbs of footpaths - but yet so effective

Haven't seen it yet, but great feedback from those who have. Goes to show that it's possible to substantial improve the appearance of a laneway without spending a small fortune. And it went up so quick so minimal construction impact on laneway tenants.

A great model for future laneways in Adelaide, those involved with developing the concept really should be congratulated. Now that small bar legislation has passed, the stage is set for a laneway renaissance!!

Does anyone know what the budget was for this? IIRC, I think it was only around $1M. With this kind of minimal outlay, ACC should plan to rollout 2-3 of these laneway upgrades each year for the next 5 years. That really would make a difference and kick start the laneway revolution.

Now that looks good! Max impact for min $$'s. Unfortunately it might not look so impressive a couple of months down the track due to wear and fading. Maybe we should use brightly colored pavers (that don't fade easlily) each time footpaths, malls etc. are ripped up instead of putting back something gray again. That way we could eventually have a 'color-coded' pedestrian network throughout the city - something that might be helpful to visitors as well as being different.

I went and had a look at lunchtime today - very impressed. As Reb-L said, huge bang for the bucks. Also very impressed at the speed of the makeover.

Also agree. fantastic result. Longevity is a concern, but most likely low cost to maintain.

Great result for Bank St and ACC should do more of these.... but I was somewhat shocked [and I may be the odd one out] that this cost a million dollars. Is it just me? From what they did I don't understand how this could cost this much....

I hate when people complain about the cost of things.

Sorry but its more than just what you see, people are employed to think, design, test, build and install things like this.

Re: the cost, I think that the work is not entirely finished yet. There is more streetscaping to be completed during the year and more artwork to be installed.
