The bit that already has just been upgraded, or continue the upgrade further south? If the latter, do you mean pedestrianise the whole length? Whilst I'm fully supportive of discouraging car use within the CBD and have no problems with pedestrianisation in general, would the southern part really be a priority given that the retail offering dies off considerably south of Pirie Street? I can see a possible argument for pedestianisation between Grenfell and Pirie but also suspect that the patronage of the eateries in that section is very skewed towards the weekday lunchtime trade and less towards relaxed outdoor dining.
Bank Street, Leigh Street and Peel Street are small laneways where mixing of people and cars isn't really ideal. Pedestrianisation not only improves safety but helps create intimacy and defines them as distinct spaces. Gawler Place is a much wider road and would have more of a mall feel if closed to cars - great for the established retail area that exists between North Terrace and Grenfell, but not ideal further south.
Rundle Street surely has to be the next contender for pedestrianisation? ACC should develop the UPark site for something more worthy of the prime location. Wilson Centrepoint parking could most likely be tweaked for entry off of Pulteney Street.
Gawler Place isn’t pedestrianised, it’s a shared zoned, and that treatment is appropriate for its whole length (or at least up to Flinders St). The section between Pirie and Grenfell should be at least as much a priority as the streets on the Market-to-Riverbank, as I’d wager its foot traffic is equally high.

I guess my point was that in terms of priorities for streetscape improvements I'd take the full pedestrianisation of Peel and Leigh Streets over an upgrade to Gawler Place further south of Grenfell based on the new and distinct destinations they have provided, as opposed to just ending up with a nicer version of what we already had.

I take your logic, but I'd turn it around and say that Gawler Place has an opportunity to welcome more hospitality business especially in the night time economy were it a more pleasant place to be. You've got an emerging foodie precinct on Pirie, and I can see that expanding along Gawler between Pirie and Grenfell.
I agree Peel St is high priority (Leigh St can make do for a while). The vehicle closure worked, so the street should be upgraded to a pedestrian standard and softened with some greenery.

The laneway upgrades are also working to slowly but surely improve the overall feel of Hindley Street.

Massive mural of Sia, presumably part of the laneway project relating to renaming 4 city laneways after music legends. This is on the Rockford Hotel facing the Morphett St Bridge.

Unrelated to the topic but regarding the above, the Rockford redevelopment concept had a giant tv wall on this side of the building. The inset for the screen was built in but they obviously changed their mind as this is where they have painted the Sia portrait.

I feel like a good number of the things in that article had already been announced prior to the pandemic? The council had already frozen rates, for one, and the laneway link was already on hold pending construction & gas works.

Coromandel Plc and Chesser St are proposed to be made shared zones in a minimal intervention involving removal of some loading zones, introduction of planter boxes, and the painting of on-road murals. Consultation here:

Some ongoing work on the footpaths on Station Road around the Railway station, presumably in preparation for the Casino opening.
Part of North Terrace was also fenced off this morning for works to the footpath.

The section of Nth Tce between King William and Kintore was re-paved for the first time in 2010 as part of the boulevard masterplan. Most of this was only laid on sand and not on a concrete base and hence why the granite and other stone rectangular pavers sometimes crack. If you look at the pavement works in completed projects like Rundle Mall, Bank St, Topham Mall, Gawler Pl, etc they were all laid on a concrete base - all looking pretty good still. I imagine what they're doing on Nth Tce is a thorough repair job but ideally a concrete base should have been used from the outset.

Hopefully finally repairing all the cracked pavers and replacing the concrete substitutes on North Tce.
Station Rd stuff is presumably stage 1 of the festival plaza, due to be complete by the end of year (when Casino hotel opens).
