Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail
Ok, what idiot at Central Market management green lighted a Chemist Warehouse? In the arcade would have been ok, but completely inappropriate for a market frontage.

Maybe they are only seeing "organic" drugs at this storeNathan wrote:Ok, what idiot at Central Market management green lighted a Chemist Warehouse? In the arcade would have been ok, but completely inappropriate for a market frontage.
But seriously, not a good look. It doesn't even suit Chemist Warehouse's business model, rent inside the market is quite high from what I've heard.

It's not in the Central Market, that side of the row is in the Central Market Arcade https://www.centralmarketarcade.com.au/menu

Yeh that’s disappointing. What’s next cotton on and boost juice. It’s not meant to replicate a suburban mall.

Chemist Warehouse is in The Central Market Arcade, along with Coles, other chemists and many other shops, i haven't been to the market area recently but it looks like from the picture thats the rear of Chemist Warehouse so it's frontage would be facing the arcade. Look at Google maps the markets are on the left, Chemist Warehouse is in the arcade on the right - https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-34.930 ... 312!8i6656

It one of the walkways that connect the markets through to the market arcade. Was where Let Them Eat, The Burgery, and Perfect Cup were. That’s not the rear but construction hoarding. It absolutely fronts the market.

Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail
It doesn't matter if it faces the markets, it's clearly not in the central markets it's in the arcade, the laneway is between the two properties. The arcade has shops that the market doesn't, the market and arcade survive off each other, the market is the big drawcard but having an arcade attached with chemists, bottle-shop a Coles makes it a one stop shop, the uniqueness of the integrated buildings means things like this can happen, I doubt the market owns the laneway and therefore has no say on what shops face it, it seems to be more of a service road between the two properties. The arcades on both sides of the markets are pretty tacky, I doubt a Chemist Warehouse will change anything.
Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail
Well hopefully the whole Market Arcade is demolished come 2020.

Was in the Central Markets today and Chemist Warehouse faces the Arcade, has a nice big glass window along the entire frontage, theres a small entrance to the rear as seen in the photos on here, that is what it looks like the door on the right leads to a back entrance, the blue door on the left of the small foyer is probably a store room, you can see the frame for the roller door which would close on non market days in the photo. It's really not an issue, the tacky 70s and 80s feeling of the arcade and parts of the markets is more of an issue then a nice shinny new Chemist.

I can also confirm that this Chemist Warehouse is indeed, accessed via the arcade and not the market itself.

Interestingly where the Chemist moved out, the corner store near the Gouger Street doors, a cafe has moved in. They were trading today. But are still scraping all the chemist related signage off the walls and windows. It's weird seeing a cafe operating amongst the bones of a chemist.
Exit on the right in the direction of travel.

I saw a couple of undercover policemen go into a massage place on Morphett street tonight. I wonder if the government is starting to crackdown on it. In my opinion the proliferation of massage businesses over the last few years is an absolute disgrace.
