Is this the first major application since the GFC?
Next door to Ipad. A lot more than the height limit allows for the area so will be interesting how the approval process goes ahead if it does.
Hopefully this is the start of a new wave of development! This site is already cleared so hopefully good to go asap.
Type: Development Application Received
Application Number: DA/804/2009
Lodgement Date: 20/10/2009
Location: Land, Off 302-306 Waymouth Street, ADELAIDE SA 5000
Description: Construct 13 level student accommodation building on vacant land.

This is the exact address of iPad.
Any idea where exactly this will be? The site to the east is 300 Waymouth whilst the site to the west is 60 West Tce.

I don't know exactly where it will be, but a narrow strip of land was for sale between iPad and 60 West Tce during construction of iPad.
Looks like this may be the access drive (or footpath - very narrow) to a development immediately north of iPad (?).

Ben, yes this is the first high-rise proposal since the GFC.
It is good to see that there is some movement happening again.

The term high-rise refers to a building above 35m tall.

This will be an interesting test of the waters in regards to the council's height limitations policy.
Especially after all that saga that occured surrounding the Light Square development getting knocked back for being 'too tall', which - correct me if I'm wrong - was 43m or so, and this development, from what people are speculating is right next door to iPad - significantly further westwards and outside the scope of the outdated "pyramid" scheme which the council seem so fixated on.
But then again, in light of Harbison's recent words and 'invitation', I would put it, that the council wouldn't block the progress of developers wanting to build taller. Is he all talk and no action? Or has the council regained sanity? (We'd hope).

yes i agree shuz, this will be an interesting test for the ACC.
Any idea of the cost of this development - over $10m perhaps?
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

$10m for a 13 level apartment building sounds very cheap! I'm sure it would be valued at more than $10m.

I had a good look today - a tiny 185 sq mtr block is for sale immediately north of iPad, with narrow right of way from Waymouth St along
the length of iPad to the block, which may also be accessible from Currie Street via Clifton Place if(!!) the owners of Happy Wash agree.
Not a likely place for a 13 level building, from what I can see, but maybe a quirky design could be built & hide the blank north wall of iPad.
Have a streetview from Currie St / Clifton Place.

Thirteen levels on 185sqm? Somehow I doubt that...
