They're tying the tree into the mall's branding.

Does anyone knows when the new lights are going to be turned on?

Exactly why it's tacky. Sure they have enough branding everywhere else in the mall to not have to come to this...

I think those decorations should look fantastic, especially the tree.

Far from tacky, they look Christmassy and fun!

Calling it tacky is being kind.

I was naive to expect something similar to London's Regent St for $500k. This is Australia after all.

One day Australia will lift its game.

It will hopefully start by removing all palm trees. They do not belong on our land, and they look right well stupid when people plant them. :wallbash:

This isn't Naples or Cannes.

Well actually... They're extremely well-suited to Australia's northern landscape.

Where did that come from and why?

Please, let's not have another thread descend into a palm/gum/whatever tree hate fest. The argument's been had, we know where people (stronic) stand.

Maybe I'll get there at night some time to see how bright they are.

Don't you mean ripping out the brand new bitumen only 4 months after taxpayers paid to have it laid down? It's a disgrace - I'll contact the Advertiser...

Seems to be pretty much systems go tonight.

The lights were on and the spires were glowing the same cobalt blue as the ambient under seat lighting in the mall.

Aesthetically, it's all very fine. But, IMO, the lights are nowhere near as bright as I was hoping.

Yes, but what do they look like during the day? I sense a missed opportunity for retractable light towers.

What were you hoping for, for it to be that bright that the astronaughts in the space station to say when they fly over Adelaide ... "over to our left we have Rundle Mall..we will be dropping in on our next fly by"...? :P

Those over head hanging light fixtures in pedestrian zones are better when they aren't turning night into day, it's sort of a ambience and vibe setting thing imo.
