I agree

I think the problem is, people see the price tag but can't see what was done as from the ACC tell us, it was subsurface.

I think it looks good, although it is a shame about the massive poles at each end.

Well it's finally happened. Today they were testing the xmas music piped out of the speakers in the tree pits.

Not sure exactly where to post this so I'll place it here...

The John Martin's/David Jones Father Christmas has been relocated to it's new permanent home at the Central Markets...

Nice gesture, but I feel they could have found a more relevant location than the produce markets / china town area... Better than him being kept in a warehouse though.

Tend to agree, though it should what's possible with the markets in terms of theming it for Christmas.

Personally I think the Renaissance building (Kmart) or Rundle Mall Plaza would have better suit something like this.

Went for a walk down Rundle Mall this evening to check out the Christmas decorations.

The massive lighten present displays at either end of the mall are great and people seemed to enjoy walking amongst them and taking photos.

The lights hanging off the catenary lighting wires don't look as bad in real life, but they still look tacky in comparison to displays elsewhere in the World. The similar lights hanging from the Rundle Mall Plaza awning also look really tacky.

As for the tree in Gawler Places... Well, it looks worse in real life. I'd prefer a proper tree (similar to that in Victoria Square) be erected on the on the southern side of the Gawler Place / Rundle Street intersection (keeping the the clear vista down the centre of the mall).

The absence of the big Father Christmas from the mall is really felt. Surely the council could have negotiated with the Myer Centre or Rundle Mall Plaza to put him up on their facade...

I don't mean to come across as a negative person but for $500,000 I want to know what we actually got...

Is the tree better then this? http://www.abc.net.au/news/image/694626 ... 00x467.jpg
That would be the main tree though in Hobart - it's just a little bit disappointing the scale seems off - link to article - http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-11-17/h ... ia/6945968

Compared to Brisbane's tree in King George Sq, the tree in the Mall looks tacky to me - could be greatly improved.

I suspect that if we had the same overhead decorations as the Bourke Street Mall, we'd all be whinging about how tacky they look....

I don't think Bourke St is that much better, it does look tacky.

They might look tacky but at least they are noticeable. Unlike the tiny stars every 20 metres in Rundle. I'm hoping that they have a budget each year so it will be added to.

On a side note the council has improved on their decorations this years especially in and around Victoria square and it looks quite professional with the giant tree and fairy lights from side to side and light up figures on the light poles as well as projections and decoration on the tall hall. All the trees down King William have fairy lights in them too.

The Mall decorations look good ... at night. Even from a distance like half way down Rundle Street. Very pretty.

During the day they are almost unnoticeable. I was hoping for more to come after the lights went up. Seems that what the Mall Authority thinks is "amazing" is actually very bland.

I don't have a problem with the redevelopment (ie the choice of pavers, lights, furniture etc) however everytime I walk down Rundle Mall I feel like something isn't right. Just looking at some old photos before the redevelopment Ive finally worked out what my problem is: there are 2 many empty dead spots. Before, there were kiosks, the 2 outdoor restaurants and other things that acted as stop fillers and made the mall look vibrant. Now there are far too many empty holes and it looks like the mall is deserted in some sections. The worst section is in front of the Nike store and the whole area in between the Renaissance building all the way east up to the City Centre Arcade. It desperately needs something put in the middle as its so empty and just yuk. Things can still be put in easily without affecting this emergency services path

Also the canopy at Rundle Mall/Gawler Place urgently needs to go all the way over the mall and a few metres into the southern side of Gawler Place. Before, the old glass canopy was a great spot in days of rain and the blazing heat from the sun
