Yeah from what i recall when i attended city west (many moons ago!) it was a carpark for the marketing faculty, and i think there's a child care centre on that site as well.

This was previously covered in the Uni SA "Blueprint 2015" heading a while ago by SA.

Great to see it happening now and yes, the site includes the carpark and the child centre. The Uni owns much of the land around that part of town and over the next few years there will be an increasing building program. The movement of the RAH to the west of the city will see the Uni respond by moving its health sciences from City East to City West and also (I think) the establishment of a new medical school. Good times ahead for that part of the CBD.

BUILDING: Work on UniSA’s new $95 million learning centre in the West End is expected to start in September.

The university has lodged an application with the City Council to build a library, teaching space, offices, student services, shops and a restaurant on the southern side of Hindley St.

UniSA deputy vice-chancellor Joanne Wright said the eight-storey building would cater for an extra 1700 students from February 2014.

Professor Wright said the building would offer a mix of formal and informal study areas to provide students with a “home away from home”.

“The idea is to create a pleasant environment for people who at home don’t have an environment which is conducive to study.” Professor Wright said.

Designs were still being finalised, but she said the building would feature mock workplaces for practical learning, such as a courtroom, boardroom and a classroom.

The Federal Government has contributed $30 million towards the project through its Education Investment Fund.

The project will need to be approved by the state’s Development Assessment Commission (DAC), which is the planning authority for works worth more than $10 million.

A City Council spokeswoman said the council’s development assessment panel would make a recommendation on the project to the DAC after its meeting on May 16.

UniSA should be congratulated for the importance they have placed on the design of their new buildings.

Yeah, looks great. They're taking the lead from some of the other "tech" unis across Australia such as RMIT and building really interesting buildings.

Would have been nice if they had that mindset when they built the atrocity that is the first stage of the City West campus, but it's better late than never.

Uni SA have really been creating some pretty good buildings with this, the hawke building on north tce, and their new buildings out at Mawson Lakes are looking pretty nice too.

The newest Adelaide Uni building is alright too..

But with this one at 8 levels, will it mean another crane in the cbd?

This will be located directly opposite the substation, indeed on the southern side (not end!) of Hndley Street.
