Adelaide is Australia's only capital city where you can enjoy the beach lifestyle, relax in natural bushland, sample world-class local wines and watch a gulf sunset within just 30 minutes of the city.
Exit on the right in the direction of travel.

The Barmy Army trumpeter, Billy Cooper, is back at The Ashes at Old Trafford. Check this photo posted on Twitter.
Billy was recently appointed as an ambassador for SA and the Adelaide Oval Test.

Smart :applause: :applause: As our dollar continues to fall on the currency markets v the Pound and the Greenback, a trip out to Adelaide Test for the Barmy Army starts to look more attractive
Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.

QUESTION: Woudn't the Barmy Army be going to Adelaide for the test, regardless of how much money we throw at them?

Yes, but I assume that he is a big profile character, so he is more like a walking billboard to attract other tourists to Adelaide.

The Barmy Army numbers fluctuate during the series. Not everyone can afford the time off work and or other costs associated with following all the matches in different cities. The hard core/cricket tragics might attend many/all but others have to select which tests they attend depending on appeal, affordability, fitting in with holiday leave or whatever.

Check the dates for the 2013-14 Ashes Series below.
Thursday 21 - 25 November 2013, Gabba
Thursday 5 - 9 December 2013, Adelaide Oval
Friday 13 - 17 December 2013, WACA Ground
Thursday 26 - 30 December 2013, MCG
Friday 3 - 7 January 2014, SCG

If Billy, as a paid SA ambassador, raises the profile of our test and magnificent AO venue and boosts the BA numbers to attend our test, that's great!!!

Exactly. Your average Nigel English Cricketfan isn't going to be able to afford to take vacation time from work from november to January. Factor in cost of a 10 week vacation too. :2cents: :2cents:
We want as many of them thinking"If I can only get to 2 games, I want to make sure the Test at Adelaide Oval is one of them. In the same way If I could go on tour to watch us in Pomgolia, I'd choose the Test at Lords as my 'must see' Game and grab one either before or after to make a nice 2-3 week cricket holiday. I could see a few BA members choosing Adelaide and Melbourne(Boxing Day) as their 2 Tests to attend.

from what Ive seen and heard over the years, the English classify the Adelaide test as a must see, far higher than Brisbane and Perth. Sydney and Melbourne would be the most popular for the Barmy Army, which is obvious due to the large amounts of English backpackers, tourists and temp workers living in those 2 cities. I think Ive read somewhere that almost 20,000 seats each day for Adelaide (well atleast 1st few days) have already been reserved for the Barmy Army, which is why the SACA is hoping to have the bottom deck of the eastern stand ready for some extra capacity

I'd say 20,000 is a bit much given the expected capacity this summer is only 35,000 or so and there wouldn't be 20,000 BA in town. 20,000 members allocation (western and some southern) so perhaps it's 20,000 for the match.

Any apologies from the chicken Littles who proclaimed the construction was behind schedule? :wallbash:
Article in today's tiser stating 5000+ seats in the Eastern stand lower bowl likely to be available 'soon'.

There was an interview with the now Adelaide sponsored barmy army bugler (forget his name) last night during a break in the cricket. He was wearing the new SA branding on his hat, and a giant logo on his shirt, saying 'Im going to Adelaide', or similar words.

Was very noticeable marketing for both the oval the and city in my opinion.

I shared some information that was shared with me from people INVOLVED with the redevelopment and SMA.
If you don't like it, then don't read it.

But bare in mind before rushing off to insult people, that the information I shared was non-specific, and that others suggested it might be out of date as extra shifts are working to complete it on time.
Now...why would there be extra shifts put on? Hmmm......1+1..

To be fair, a lot of the workers posting construction pics on Instagram, etc, have commented or hashtagged suggesting they're behind schedule.

Hopefully they've caught up!
