A $535m brand new stadium, and we used tarp?

Just what exactly the hell did the money get spent on?

From memory the roof of the southern stand allowing some light through was one of the
unique features of the upgrade.

Not sure exactly what the reason for it is, but at some other stadiums you see the grandstands
casting shadows over the ground it doesn't look good.

Um ...... no, its not tarp. It's PTFE (Teflon) coated glass cloth. Before going off your rocker, you might want to check some facts.

I do realise that the eastern stand would be the one casting a shadow in the afternoon.
I was just trying to come up with some type of reasoning for the translucent roof.

sorry I meant western stand, I was so tired yesterday after NYE.

43,000 at the cricket for NYE and many of them would have watched the fireworks after
the match. Seems like New years at adelaide oval and the riverbank is turning out to be
a big event.

Watching the Big Bash match last night I couldn't believe how many people there were there.

42,000 on a week night.

Last night the Adelaide Strikers had a crowd of 52,633 this was the biggest domestic cricket crowd in Australia ever, the biggest crowd at Adelaide Oval since redevelopment even beating the AFL and the biggest cricket crowd at Adelaide Oval ever beating the previous record held by day 2 of the infamous Bodyline test in 1933.

Absolutely insane crowd numbers for a domestic cricket match! Pity they didn't have much to cheer about on the night ... It was rather embarrassing for the Strikers

Simple question, how was Port's crowd figure beaten when half the hill was covered with tarp?

They "accidentally" sold way too many SACA guest passes then too many members showed up. The members stand was full about 40 minutes before the game started and people stood on steps and the pathway infront of the members stand had people standing 10 rows deep. The rest of the ground was packed too.

So how does ticketing work then? I was always of the assumption regardless of the venue, that the number of tickets sold equates to the number of seats?

Or is it just free for all and see how many people rock up?

With regular admission they sell 1:1 tickets to seats. (And the equivalent capacity for the hill.)

With the members' area, they have the option to over book because of members' tendency to no-show. They have an open ticket to turn up whenever. Guest passes are sold to cash in on this possibly unused capacity.

It's part statistics and part gambling. Sometimes you can get the perfect storm and the above happens.
Exit on the right in the direction of travel.
