Cheers for the UC clarification. Was also thinking how nice this would look on the South Park site (amongst others) - even at half the height.

Passing all judgement, considering this has a visionary status, how likely is this to ever be constructed? Is it even serious?
[VIS] Re: VIS| New Tallest | 301 - 315 king William Street | 45 Lv
i like it, think the colours work well in blending in with older buildings.
[VIS] Re: VIS| New Tallest | 301 - 315 king William Street | 45 Lv
No, it is not a serious proposal. It is merely an avenue by the architects to display what they are capable of doing.cometthecat wrote:Passing all judgement, considering this has a visionary status, how likely is this to ever be constructed? Is it even serious?

Love it!
All for replacing that boring carpark structure and the blank block of land that really should be used by now. The courthouse (I think) and other buildings that were there were demolished at least 20 years ago... correct me if wrong.

Agree. However, it looks to be more architect dreaming to me than a real proposal. All for replacing that boring carpark structure and the blank block of land that really should be used by now. The courthouse (I think) and other buildings that were there were demolished at least 20 years ago.

it is more an architect's vision than a serious project.this is in the legal precinct and is actually state government land reserved for future expansion of court facilities (the need for which has been growing in last couple years IIRC), I'm not sure that this is the right location for this kind of development.

Although, I believe the land was reserved for the Commonwealth Law Courts, which ended up being built around the corner on Angus St.

nathan, that opens things up then?
[VIS] Re: VIS| New Tallest | 301 - 315 king William Street | 45 Lv
The land where this fantasy tower sits actually belongs to the state government. It was owned by the Commonwealth government, however they performed a 'land swap' with the state government in 2001, whereby the state gave the commonwealth the land where the old police HQ was on Angas street, and the commonwealth gave the state government this parcel of land in return.Nathan wrote:Although, I believe the land was reserved for the Commonwealth Law Courts, which ended up being built around the corner on Angus St.
The current line is that this parcel of land is reserved for some future expansion of court facilities.

Looks like we've had journalists snooping our website for stuff to report on yet again.
Would you like to see a building like this grace our skyline?

THIS striking design has coincided with a State Government call for help to upgrade the ageing courts precinct.
The bold idea for this 40-storey building with observation deck and a Guggenheim-inspired indigenous gallery is the work of architects at JPE Design Studio aimed at solving long-standing issues with the aged and cramped conditions in the Supreme and District courts, as well as providing a tourism drawcard.
The copper-coloured skyscraper - 15m higher than the Westpac Building in King William St - is apparently inspired by the giant termite mounds of the Outback.
Towering over Victoria Square, the building would feature an Aboriginal culture gallery visible from King William St, with a spiral walkway similar to New York City's Guggenheim Museum.
Tourists would take in views of the city and Adelaide Hills from a "sky garden" observation deck and restaurant, while the bulk of the building would house a hotel, apartments or offices.
A smaller adjoining building would contain up to 50 courtrooms over 10 levels topped with a rooftop garden, freeing the existing Supreme and District court buildings for other uses.
JPE director Adrian Evans said the project, called Signature, was the product of an in-house design challenge.
"Anyone visiting Adelaide would have to visit it," he said.
"This needs a visionary, a premier or government or company prepared to get behind it."
Mr Evans said a potential billion-dollar price tag could be split between the government, which would pay for the courts, and private interests.
On Friday, the State Government called for submissions from the private sector to redevelop the site bordered by Gouger, King William and Wright streets. It is looking to consolidate the courts inside one block, as well as legal, government and private sector tenancies.

Great to hear the Government is finally planning to develop the vacant land on the corner of King William Street and Wright Street. Whilst it probably won't result in a new tallest like the concept below it will be great to see this site developed. On Friday, the State Government called for submissions from the private sector to redevelop the site bordered by Gouger, King William and Wright streets. It is looking to consolidate the courts inside one block, as well as legal, government and private sector tenancies.
It would really give an enclosed feeling to Victoria Square now that a lot of City Central, SA Water, Commonwealth Law Courts etc have been constructed.
This vacant land and this part of King William Street is in a poor state with a lot of very average buildings and it is a prime position. The southern end of King William Street has been developing nicely, hopefully this development will be the catalyst for further development for this portion of King William Street. It could be the type of project that could finally sees an almost fully developed King William Street from the southern CBD to the northern CBD.

Perhaps we should have a Sturt's Desert Pea signature building to complement the termite mound? Also hope the adjoining building includes a new Remand Centre - this releases land south as well as east and west of the UniSA Learning Centre.
