eehhh... for some reason, perhaps because of the podium, it reminds me of 80/90s UK social housing. And I can't un-see it now.

Excellent!

Adjacent this site (immediately west) is a collection of awful 1960/1970 two storey apartments (Davaar Place). Personally I would not like to overlook them.

This development reminds me of the Seasons Heritage Hotel on St Kilda Road in Melbourne (just down from Albert Park).

One must ask why this will take 18 months to complete when VUE is on-track to be complete within 12-15 months?

Also, haven't seen anything in the way of apartments being sold? How does this have the go ahead yet?

I agree with you re: Seasons Hotel in Melbourne, however, because of the 'podium' on this one, it better matches with the existing heritage building.

The Seasons looks to be placed behind with little regard to the existing. I also don't see how this reminds you of UK socialist housing at all?

It is listed with Refined Real Estate on the back of the local Domain junk mail brochure today, but it is not on their website as yet.

Yep, definitely like this one. Question: Why does a 14 level building take a whopping 18 months to build? The Empire State Building, at 102 levels, took 25 months back in 1929-1931. You would think construction processes have sped up and become more efficient since then! Or is it not that simple as I make it sound...

It all depends on how much money the developers are willing to put over how much time.

higher ceilings +1
oversize doors +1

A builder mate of mine does this as standard spec at Mawson Lakes & other locations. Costs a little more to build but sells quickly compared to 2.4m ceiling places.
