A further 12 month extension to the DA was granted on April 22.

oh ok thanks .. unless height restrictions change it would be pretty impossible to build a new tallest here because it would have to be double the height restricition  hopefully the ACC will relax restrictions sooner rather than later

Out of interest aviation OLS would be approximately 100m there, PANS-OPS (as usual) we don't have enough data yet but at a guesstimate it looks about the same.

Might Finally see some action on site:
Type: Development Application Received
Application Number: DA/438/2008
Lodgement Date: 10/06/2008
Location: 81-85 Pirie Street, ADELAIDE SA 5000
Description: Balcony/Veranda demolition and removal
Bit confused about the address number. Perhaps the thread title is wrong?

I've got a horrible feeling this will be reopened as a restaurant.

As dissapointing as that would be it would be better then nothing as it is now... also with a few years extra time hopefully height restrictions in the area will be relaxed with the new planning laws.

Yes you are correct, the thread title should be changed. This development site encompasses 77-85 Pirie Street.

And I too fear that what you have posted could indicate that this development has been mothballed and a restaurant or cafe will now occupy the easternmost allotment of the site.

I think this could just be in relation to an article i read in the messenger a couple of weeks back. The ACC now are charging quite high fees for any building that has varandahs/balconies over ACC land including footpaths and a lot of hotel owners were complaining as their hotels are heritage listed and they are not able to remove the balconies to eliminate the fees.

Ok, that makes sense. I mean why would anyone want to be paying fees for a derelict building that is producing no income.

That is the most counterproductive idea I have ever heard. Whichever moronic accountant came up with that idea should be sacked immediately. Building elements which provide protection for pedestrians from rain and summer sun should be encouraged. Such elements provide an intimate scale which makes pedestrians feel safe and welcome, thus bringing activity to our streets and making them safer and more vibrant etc etc
