The main crane assemble was installed today and is pretty well finished except for the boom. The boom has been fully assembled along the street at the back of the site and looks like it will go in tomorrow morning ready for work on Tuesday.
[COM] Re: #U/C: The Precinct - 5 x 62m, 19 lvl Towers
The crane is completed now and looks pretty good. In the heat today God knows how hot it would have been working out in the sun with the hot steel.
Anyway, another crane up and I guess the next one will be on KWS.

This one looked awesome last night with the Urban Construct sign lit up in green neons along the boom. Unfortunately I couldn't get a pic. I know about the cranes out at Port Adelaide but is this our first neon crane in the CBD? Anyway looks great and really stands out in the flat part of the CBD. Not sure how much construction work will happen over the next 3 weeks considering they are all short with public holidays and builders take extended holidays around these public holidays too.

I think years ago (like late 90s) there was a neon crane on one of the developments on North Terrace.

Anyway, yesterday I was at the Glendi and you could see the many cranes in the CBD (about 6-7), including the Precinct one with the green lighting at night time.

Actually back in the 1990s pretty much every crane had neon lighting along the boom. The one used for the convention centre is particularly memorable.crawf wrote:I think years ago (like late 90s) there was a neon crane on one of the developments on North Terrace.

the cranes in port adelaide have good lighting on them

'All the cranes in the 1990's' Hahahahaha. That wouldn't have been many then, a couple in the early 90's and a couple in the late 90's and none in between. The green neon lighting on this new crane really stands out which is great. Thanks for the new pic Ben.

There was a time in the late 80s and early 90s when the construction industry in Adelaide was busy and quite a number of buildings were under construction.
The State Bank had 2 cranes, the Hyatt had 2, plus the convention centre, The Myer Centre and the yellow building near North Tce (which name escapes me). I think the maximum number was 8 cranes at one time(from memory). The State Bank debt then crippled the local economy for so long that we started to lose many people to interstate and there was less commercial investment that came to this State. It is only in the last 3- 4 years, with the sale of ETSA and the retiring of the debt, that the SA economy has started to move again, through mining and defence etc. Still, we still have a long way to go to catch up to the Eastern States or to WA but we are now not falling so far behind the others.

I don't understand why you had the need to ridicule my post. At no stage did I say that there were many cranes during the 90's or that there were many in the mid 90's. All I was saying was that the few cranes present in the late 90's had neon lights on the boom. Such as for the Radisson, EDS building, Convention Centre, David Jones Building, Maxwell on the Park building, Roma Mitchell Arts Centre...UrbanSG wrote:'All the cranes in the 1990's' Hahahahaha.
