Sad that there's people who would prefer a pile of crap compared to that modern, sleek, futuristic looking building that could be going up.

Doesn't fit in with it's surrounds?
Maybe if a building like that went up, it's surrounds would be redeveloped to fit in with it?

What century and year are we currently in? Someone remind me, so I can better understand why a modern looking building is not preferred.
So do you mean the U2 design is a pile of crap? I think it's pretty futuristic by Adelaide's low standards.

Wait... when was that design in play? Who designed it?

I like it, especially because it doesn't overwhelm Queen's Theatre so much. But that was a battle lost when UNO apartments went up anyway. And the current design is not too shabby by recent standards.

That's a pretty incredible looking design, though it looks too stumpy and the wrong location.

U2's current design is fine.

I meant the current design that is actually going to be built, Rev.

I hope they still plan on doing these lighting features.

You mean this?

This just looks like another typical box that goes up in Adelaide. Few exceptions of new buildings that aren't boxes are things like SAHMRI.

That compared to what Ben posted on page 20.

Sure what's going up isn't exactly ugly. But it's nothing exciting. It's just another box. The only good thing(I think I may have said this somewhere before) about this one is that the top will be illuminated in blue and it will stand out and add a little something extra to the skyline at night which is sorely lacking.

Where's the inspiration in design? I've said this before in the past. Is it a case of developers getting what they are willing to pay for, or a case of architects/designers being boring?
We are never going to match the bigger cities in terms of height, well not for a very very long time if ever. So why can't we expect better design? Some modern, or futuristic looking, sleek buildings. Why can't it happen/or be done here?
Take a look at whats next door in that render. ugh. How does shit like that get approved.

Yep the current design is more than fine IMO. For starters it has lots of glass, as opposed to Adelaides' current skyline dominated by boring grey and beige concrete eyesores from the 60's/70's and 80's. Also the podium is semi-interesting including some pillars and some kind of public deck. Plus as someone mentioned before, some nice blue lighting at the top which will look great at night.

This is a slightly newer picture from the same location as Mpol03 above. Picture shows column foot pads and stater bars on western side.

Was in the lane today checking out the old queen's theatre. From what I saw it hasn't gotten off the ground, just rio rod sticking out of the ground still.

A lot more footings have been dug but there is still no sign of any crane base as of 7/8/17 .
I still can't upload pictures since this web site was updated. The attach files system does not work correctly.

Could this be a crane base and lift core? From today, sorry for the lousy angle.
