I remember reading somewhere that they had to carry out an architectural dig, to determine just how far the foundations from the adjoining Queen’s Theatre encroached to this site.Pistol wrote:No I think you will find that is SWP for this bad boy.Uncle Monty wrote:There is a full on archaeological dig happening at the U2 site with people using small trowels and containers etc sifting through the dirt for artefacts.

The archeological work is at the Payhouse Lane end of the site. There is a sign on the fence advising that EBS Group is performing the 'archeological and cultural assessment '. I've got a few pics I'll try and upload to demonstrate the work underway. The pic from Norman doesn't show the bricks and foundations from the old Queens Theatre.

Now that they've been uncovered, what happens now? Will they be preserved somehow once construction starts, or is it just a matter of documenting them before they're removed?

I think we have an answer to what happens next with this site. A large excavator has flattened approx three quarters of the old footings as at lunch time today (Mon 03 April). I assume then that development can kick off in earnest and that the archeological work has now been finalised??

Yep this one should be underway from now on.

I noticed that the display/sales building on site has been stripped as well. Should come down soon you'd think.

Lots of history seems to be getting uncovered at this site.

Lanes have been realigned on Waymouth St, presumably to facilitate U2's loading arrangements. Did they run out of the normal green paint for the bike lanes?
