[COM] Re: Uni of Adelaide - Med School | 70m | 15lvl | $120m
Either way, both designs are an improvement on what is currently there. I seem to recall hearing that the current buildings were designed with the option of repurposing them for the city's remand centre should they need to expand the city's prison facilities, don't hold me to that, it's simply what I've heard which would make sense of the lack of windows in the building and it's jail-block elements.
With UniSA steadily becoming the state's preferred tertiary education institution, more money is flowing in and therefore the pace in-which their current projects are moving forward is quite rapidly. I'd say that that funding for the City West campus make-over will come very shortly after the new medical research building opens across the road, perhaps even sooner. They've just opened this year a new student hub in the old City West library and there are some minor internal upgrades happening inside of these building's, so they are in some respects getting started on this...

I just hope they improve the internal walkways in the campus itself. It's so easy to get lost and run into a dead end, gates look locked when they really are not, fences look like you're in a prison and George Street needs a major makeover.

I was a City East student but can vouch for the above. It's perfectly shady and cool in summer but definitely has a bit of that remand centre vibe.Norman wrote:I just hope they improve the internal walkways in the campus itself. Our state, our city, our future.

We were transferred there the first year it opened after a year at City East.Nathan wrote:80s? The City West campus opened in 1997.
What a disappointment studying architecture in some of those awful spaces.
Mind you, the studios on the top levels have fantastic natural lighting.

Count yourself lucky. Visual Communication was off-site in a building on Peel St — loooong before Peel St was an in place. Regularly had visits from people looking for the needle clinic that was next door. Those kids studying in the Kaurna Building now have got it good.Pistol wrote:We were transferred there the first year it opened after a year at City East.Nathan wrote:80s? It is bad enough my memory serves me so poorly I thought city west was constructed in the 80's. But what is worse is that such an eyesore was constructed in the late 90's. I thought we knew better by then.Nathan wrote:80s? The City West campus opened in 1997.

The upgrade of the baby poo yellow buildings at UNI SA as shown by Alyx look like they erected some wonky scaffolding covered in glad wrap. The best thing that could happen to those buildings would be to knock them down and start again.

The eastern crane (non-hammerhead) has been dismantled today.
[COM] Re: Uni of Adelaide - Med School | 70m | 15lvl | $120m
The crane itself was taken down but the tower sections are still in place as at 5pm Sunday due to bad weather.

Looking much better with those white tiles.

Crane is likely to come down this weekend, as North Terrace will be closed.

Looking good!
The Medical School also looks quite impressive from the KWS bridge with it's towering wall of blue glass, improving the visual appearance of the riverbank.
