From previous renders, I think it wraps around HQ. Bye bye to what was the midnight pharmacy and the pool hall.

Is this the thread and renders you meant?

Maybe the threads need to be merged together in historical continuity.

Also encouraged to see this is still moving. As has been said a huge market for offices and hotel near RAH - just staring us in the face.

Why is there a demand for offices near RAH ?

I can understand that the hotel will be useful as some people from the country will have relatives / friends
at the hospital, but honestly I don't see why any demand for offices.

Tt won't be just pure offices but medical suites and private specialist clinics.

I'd say Nathan is correct. A live music/nightclub venue won't work next to a hotel; because Victoria are the only state in Australia who have (recently passed) laws that protect live music venues, unless the ACC block this development there is no way the two can work together. It'll be a big loss to Adelaide's live music venues.

As for the 18 level building, whilst it's a massive floor space; I'd love to see it built. It could potentially be the home of the new Adelaide Dental Hospital and provide more space for Uni SA and Uni Adelaide.

HQ's days have been numbered for a few years now. Inside word was that the new RAH would force its closure.

The building will likely remain though; Newmarket Hotel is heritage-listed.

What's a hospital got to do with a night club across the road? There's been a high school on the other side of the road for decades to HQ/Heaven. Suddenly a hospital is going to force it's closure?
Around the corner from the old RAH there's a number of clubs, bars and pubs. There's a pub right across the road even.
Not that I care if HQ remains or closes.

If the East End is anything to go by, the doctors and nurses like a good watering hole after their shifts.

Will HQ stay as it is? Maybe, maybe not. But you can sure the Newmarket portion of the complex is going to see a big uptick of business.

A change in business that is.

Choice Hotels Australasia has announced it will introduce its first Ascend Hotel Collection property to South Australia, with the new Lester Hotel in Adelaide.

The property, valued at more than AUD$50 million, is being developed by The Lester Group of Companies and managed by Lancemore Group.

The premium hotel will feature over 240 rooms across 14 levels and is scheduled to open in September 2016.

Choice Hotels Australasia chief executive officer Trent Fraser said the company is pleased to be working with The Lester Group of Companies and Lancemore Group to develop the newest addition to their portfolio of Australian hotels.

“We expect that demand for our first Ascend Hotel Collection property in Adelaide will be high, responding to a need for more corporate and quality accommodation in the area,” Mr Fraser said.

Choice Hotels’ premium hotel brand, the Ascend Hotel Collection, consists of a range of historic and boutique properties that aim to provide guests with a unique local experience.

The Lester Hotel will reflect the look of luxury hotels and retail stores across the world, with the expertise of development and advisory design group, Intro, and interior design team Genesin Studio.

Intro will assist in producing an innovative and premium quality development while including sustainability benefits.

The boutique hotel will feature spacious conference facilities, a gymnasium, restaurant bar and marble-floored foyer.

Lancemore chief executive officer said his group is looking forward to managing the Lester Hotel in Adelaide.

“Lancemore has had great success in working with Choice Hotels and we are passionate about growing our white label hotel management business,” Mr Clark said.

Ugh, really? What a boring bunch of sucky suck. I notice that although they've mentioned the "development and advisory design group" and interior designers, no architect has put their name to it. Funny that.

The previous render was much better, with some interesting angles (which would fit in with the architectural style both Unis are pursuing in the area).

To be honest, its not great..... BUT something about the hotel in that image we saw a couple years ago made me want to vomit. It seriously looked like the Hilton Hotel in Vic Square distorted with some bad photoshopping skills.

So i guess i prefer this design even though it looks as boring as anything.
