I hope that's not a dig at the facade.

Nope, not a dig. This is my favorite development under construction. The facade is the by far the best one of all current U/C developments.
This is the quality which Adelaide deserves. None of that concrete block junk.

I wasn't referring to your comment, I was referring to AndyWelsh's about what the 'bricks" are being replaced with.

Hi timtam20292! Did you read the comment from rhino yesterday?
"I'm actually sad to see that façade go. It was from the days when brickwork was arty as well as functional."

I just thought it would be interesting for the group to go along and take some close up photos of the remaining brickwork, explain they're actually being recycled and then remind everyone what the new Sofitel facade will look like in its place. I thought my comments were pretty matter of fact, so apologies if you read them as sarcastic! Both old and new facades look great and I can't wait for this new Sofitel to go up.

Why did you hope it wasn't a dig at the facade?

It sounded like you thought the new facade looked crap compared to the old facade with the bricks. But I understand now what you're saying :)

A bit of a different angle, showing the brick-lined basement walls.

Stepped rubble base in, that means piling will be underway very soon!

by how good is he
Ok so no basement/carpark...but with the amount of apartments I assume there is a ramp up for say 7-8 levels of car parks? Anyone know/have the plans?

That’s why I love posting photos on here. I have literally no clue what I’m looking at, then someone like yourself Pikey can tell me what’s happening!

On another note (and thanks also for the clear photos) it is fascinating to see, how the old buildings of Adelaide evolved when other adjoining buildings are torn down. The old beauty in the background looks like it started as a two story bluestone, and then had another red brick storey added and a rear extension. Its like an exposed archaeological dig except above ground.

It is fascinating. I love the bluestone exterior.
