This site is finally rising above the ground. Only the front half on the building, facing onto Hindley St has a basement, The service core is at the rear of the site (towards North Tce End).

The ground floor form work is in place and a (red) concrete pump has been installed in the middle of the site close to Blyth St (western boundary).

Does anyone know the expected opening date? I don't expect it will be before the fringe?

Honestly, if anybody thinks that this will be finished before the fringe, then they're having a lend of themselves.

My personal pet hate - new hotel buildings with no balconies! WTF. Even for some rooms? Why.....

Not quite, but close. "Q2" means April, May, June.

I can understand the grievance for apartment building, but for hotels... does it really matter? This is a budget hotel too, so it's unlikely visitors will be staying in for the amenity.

To be honest, I can't remember the last time I had a hotel room with a balcony.

Also, the Holiday Inn Express is a budget hotel - it will be bare bones (albeit quite pleasant, clean etc) facilities.

Because people go out there to smoke / set fire to things, and jump / fall off them. It's a liability thing, several hotels around the World have been removing open balconies in recent years.
Exit on the right in the direction of travel.
