From an article in relation to the office tower.
Local developer Greaton has also lodged plans for a 16-level hotel behind the State Heritage listed GPO building, which is set to become a retail and dining hub as part of the redevelopment plans.

The Advertiser understands Greaton, which is currently building West Franklin - the city’s biggest apartment project - is in talks with upscale US hotel chain Westin to operate the new hotel.

I know it's been said many times before but I'll also state that I'm not immediately convinced of this one...

To me the building seems to compete way too much with the clock tower, both in terms of height and colour - the 'busyness' of the individual glass panels camouflages and detracts from the architectural features of the GPO. I'm not completely adverse to a glass box design but it needs to be taller, sleeker and in a contrasting shade to the original building in my opinion.

Well, that's pretty much the death of the GPO clock tower. :applause:

So much for a design overhaul, yuck. This spot deserves much better.

Having now read the entire submission, I'm keen to see this one go up. The materials used for the high-rise structure will really make or break this. The overall plan for the GPO building is excellent and it will be nice to see a new classy hotel open here, which perhaps with this, Sofitel and the Casino hotel (if that ever happens) we might see some of the more tired hotels in Adelaide (the Hilton in particular) put a new lease on life for their buildings. My only concern with this hotel is it could splice Mayfair's market share.

The only thing I would change about the building is have the structure set back where it is but curve around the clock tower to play homage to the history of the building rather than becoming a part of it.

Window proportions, building shape and colour are all wrong.

Who are the architects?
