According to the sales rep they plan on starting construction early next year with completion end of 2018

Would be great if that was the case, but being Adelaide ill only believe it when I see it completed

He claimed it's credible as Karidis will move into the penthouse, therefore the developer has a personal incentive to get it done...

Also, they plan on using the podium (retail, car park) even before construction on the towers is done. Seemingly rear access makes it feasible

Possibly a silly question, but does this mean that they could potentially build one of the two towers (the one with Karidis's penthouse, presumably the north one) plus the podium and then build the second one at a later date when it's fully sold/the office component is tenanted, possibly leaving us with a half-complete building?

Hardly bashing Adelaide, just remaining cautious seeing as its been almost 30 years since a 100m+ proposal has made it off the ground.

They only sell apartments in the North tower at the moment, so technically it could end up as 1 only I guess...

I think that's something of a red flag to those who've followed developments here long enough. Perhaps not this particular developer, but we've elsewhere ended up with suboptimal buildings from projects that have either fallen over before all stages are fully realised (Aurora, Balfours) or been 'sneaked' through as something less than promised (car parks on Wakefield & Franklin).

This development becomes a markedly different proposition if it potentially ends up as another version of number 400 down the road. I'm not sure the south end would be all that pleasant if campus-style (long, wide floors) developments are allowed to predominate.

Not suggesting that's necessarily likely, of course; only that staged developments make me nervous.

Dumb question but is the idea that some apartments will face directly into those in the opposite building?

Practically too you'd have to imagine it'd be harder to sell apartments in one tower if the prospect of living in it means being subsequently adjacent to the construction of the other.
