I'm surprised they didn't just buy up and demolish all the shops going to Rowlands Place and incorporate an even larger venue.

Between the Festival Theatre and the Entertainment Centre I doubt there would be the demand for another venue larger than what is currently planned for this expansion.

The 2 story building next door in Grote St (on the western side of the theatre) is being demolished today 4/7/2018.

Only the back wall remains of the old building on the western extension part of the site. picture 9/7/2018.

As of today all that is left is the clean up (10/7/2019).

Very pleased with how these plans have evolved cause this works. Tbh, I hadn't realised how extensive a project this is. But they're treating it with total respect and I'm personally excited to spend time on the roof deck when completed!

I can't wait to visit it as soon as it is completed. But they're saying that it would be completed in late 2019. Such a long wait!

There appears to be more bracing around all the front windows, which is tired into some internal framing. There is also scaffolding around the old wooden fire escape on the west side.

Hansen Yuncken’s website says : The $66m development ...will include restoration of the building’s heritage façade and Eastern wall, the construction of a new 1,474 seat auditorium over three levels with modern foyers and backstage facilities and a new front entrance and striking canopy.
So apart from the heritage facade and Eastern wall, it seems the rest could be gutted/demolished and a whole new building built behind the facade (a whole new auditorium). So not just the glass extension/new expanded area on the Western side will be new. Is that correct?

The back of the theatre is almost entirely guttered. 30/8/2018

Even more demolition at the rear. the steel roof trusses in my picture (previous page) have now gone.
