As someone who's only been to the Maj a handful of times, I'm having a hard time trying to work out which parts are being demo'd. Could someone highlight a Google Maps image which highlights how much of the building is actually going?

The car park round the back, 1st floor gives you a really good view inside. See photo above.

It would appear that most of the roof has gone at least on the Pitt St side . From the front one can see daylight through the front windows.

Almost all of the actual concert hall part of the building has been demolished. All that remains are the foyers on the various levels fronting on to Grote St. Most of the roof has gone as well. The change rooms and stage area were the first to go .

At this rate soon there will just be the Grote St front wall and part of the Pitt St sidewall.

The extension looks pretty terrible. I wish they continued with the architectural style as the original building.

I think it will look really good. Definitely put Adelaide back on the theatre map.

I see where you're coming from. Speaking from my own bias, I hate modern glass structures. To me this is a lazy addition with a few adjustments to look like it's consistent and integrated with the existing structure. Personally, it's a fail.

However, looking at the opposite side, using the same architectural style has its own limitations. Primarily, the original design has a symmetry which would be lost.

The option I would have opted for is for a distinct facade treatment that doesn't integrate in any way. Put simply, something that looks like an adjacent building, not part of the theatre. Functionally it would make no difference, as there'd be no relation to what is built behind the facade.
