Why is painting preferable to raw concrete? Raw, there’s texture and patina, and painting just removes that for solid colour which doesn’t hold up over time. My heart always sinks a little when I see someone painting concrete.
Same. I always think to the future when the paint is faded and wearing. Are they intending to repaint all these buildings every few years?
Bakewell underpass is an example here. Saw it the other day. Looks terrible now. If concrete is painted then it's a commitment to lifetime repainting.

The side columns on the Intercontenental hotel are another example. The have always looked out of date/ unfinished, and completely out of context with the faux sandstone, or whatever look they were going for. Those particular columns would look amazing clad in reflective glass or copper, or anything other than the raw concrete.

I like the concrete on the Intercontinental. It's the aluminium panels underneath the signage that spoils things for me.

This one is going up much quicker than expected. I'm still not sold on the rectangle-in-circle window design though. (11/8/2017)

I don't hate the colour of the concrete so much. Looks better than expected. Raw but finished enough. Fingers crossed I looks as good once finished.

Same lack of quality control in the concrete as the waymouth building. The colour differences will be more subtle in the sunlight but on rainy days could look average. Probably on par with the car park that it is blocking from view at some angles so no real net loss from where I see it.

Those recessed circles may break up the contrasts between the prefabbed panels so it could look better as the building grows.

This is probably going to sound utterly, utterly stupid and ridiculous, but does anyone else see Imperial TIE Fighter wings in the hexagonal-shaped "cracks" in the panels between the circles? They show up best in EBG's picture. You can also sort of see it in the render on the first page.

I feel like at any moment they will break off and make that awesome TIE fighter sound

You guys crack me up. Thanks for humouring my ridiculous observation.

Judging by Ser Noit of Loit's photo, it looks like the Gerard and Goodman building still lives. There's a tiny bit of wall attached to the building on the right that they haven't yet demolished for some reason.

It's slightly off-putting that the windows are raised up slightly out of alignment with the pattern (more noticeable for the ones within circles, but applies to all).
