Maybe the final paint job will help, but it is student accommodation, and it is set back from the main street.

Several people have complained that the diagonals from the renders are missing in the building. This is not true. Perhaps they were looking at a picture on a small screen?

The diagonals are definitely real...

What grinds my gears is the “50 shades of grey” style of concrete. If they kept it the same grey throughout, it would look 50% better than it does right now. Surely they’re painting over it.

Hell, I would rather it look monotone than what it looks like now. Surely you would agree Monotonehell.

What would mask the discrepancies in concrete is if there was a dark stain/tint applies to all of the circles and diagonal marks. As a feature, it's not prominent enough to see from any kind of distance.

A building using the whole parcel with the car park would block them 100% from that vantage point and everything further west. As bad as those towers look the car park is still the bigger eyesore IMO. Also eventually I'd expect a tower behind the freemasons lodge. About 15 years ago they proposed a tower that would be built on the existing hall/car park but it never got up.

How recent is that low rise behind the heritage building and directly east of the masonic lodge? Can't say it is too sympathetic to the neighbouring buildings but is definitely an improvement on the car park when viewed from North Terrace.
