What a joke that "hanging garden" is! Looks like it was done 'el cheapo' like everything else on this building.
My bet is half of the plants will die.

A human takes 9 months to grow inside of its mother's womb, it then takes years for a baby to become a full-grown adult. So why is it that you would expect plants to be any different? Give the bloody things time to grow rather than rubbishing the finishings of this building...

I would agree with you Patrick but given how bad and cheap this looks when compared to the renders, and this city’s track record with green walls and greenery in general, I have next to no hope this will be maintained.

I remember when people whinged about the vines on the Rundle Street U-Park and they took all of two months to take hold. Still, I fear the western wall will be a gamble -- I'm not totally confident the plants won't simply fry in the summer heat, especially with the dark concrete radiating back onto them. Fingers crossed though, because if it works it's a much better solution to the western solar load than the hideous walls we're more often dealt.

This building looks as bland as the renders, I'm not sure why people are surprised by the outcome. And the plants are growing slowly, but still much faster than the ones in Topham Mall.

Pretty dominant building - good that there are more people living in the west end

Just imagine if the Women's and Children's was built on that city corner rather than parklands...

Was thinking that myself. But would have had to been planned before the NRAH was build IMO, I think a tunnel would have ben the best option to connect both hospitals, rather than a bridge.

Could not agree with you more re location. Some of those tired buildings in the NW corner have been empty for years, including the bowling alley and several office buildings. Imagination is not a strong point in these decisions. We never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

First of all it's not parklands, secondly that corner you mention would be perfect for medical offices. When they planned the NRAH they should've integrated the WCH into its design. That's where the missed opportunity was.Prodical wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2019 1:23 pmCould not agree with you more re location. Besides there is still a lot of opportunity building over the railyards and one day at the Police Barracks, unless that is returned to parklands.

The old bowling alley isn't empty. There's a business operating inside.Prodical wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2019 1:23 pmCould not agree with you more re location. 18 months on and two months into its second spring, I think it's safe to say the east & west green wall on this project is a fail.

I went past the green wall today and it's actually starting to look like it's growing. So there is some hope yet.

In a couple of years time when the plants grow too big, how are they going to trim the plants back ??

Another great example of safety in design....
