Hmmm... I now have more sympathy for Samaras. The dumbing down / degrading in appearance of this building will probably reduce the value of the Adelaidean apartments, now that concrete replaces glass and the floor heights compressed to squeeze in even more small rooms. A real pity that this building has taken this significant turn for the worse.

Hang on where are the concrete panels being placed? All along one side or levels 24-26?

New renders including Adelaidean.

I'm looking at these renders trying to make sense of the amendments submitted, particularly the materiality piece with the precast from glass... reading the amendment I'm wondering if the materiality change refers to the podium, centre and crown?
Walking on over....

I can’t spot much if anything different in the podium between the renders on page 2 and those new ones above.

But geez the two buildings are going to be mighty close to each other. Was this site earmarked for a high rise development before Adelaidian started?
I also don’t see how this monstrosity of a building fits in with the “cultural” landscape of North terrace.
You can see why they’re pissed about it, when much nicer developments have been knocked back(that one on the former club site near gawler place for example), for such reasons, and then this turd gets approved.

I'm laughing at the idea of concrete precast panels that are a "similar colour" to the originally proposed glass.
The DA specifies two different glazing types - "grey" and "spandrel" (which is grey).

So, I suppose offering concrete of a "similar" colour is doable. If you completely disregard that whole glass reflecting the blue sky thing.

The windows are set a metre or so into the facade, so by no means would it look like an uninterrupted blank concrete wall. Potentially shithouse, but not an uninterrupted blank concrete wall.

They're not new renders Rev, Pikey just reposted them, so i would be worried if you did notice any differences.

Demolition of the site is proceeding quite fast, ( not that there was much to demolish). Picture 8/12/2018.

Yes, why are two of our new tallest buildings in the city crammed next to each other? Okay I know why, different developers of the properties, they both wanted to build something which was tall and they were both approved.

Adelaide's two tallest buildings in 1987 were also fairly close to each other - Telstra House is not far from the Grenfell Centre. By the time this is built, Realm will be taller, so less concentration at this end.

They obviously knew something was going to be built on the old church site that's why the tower is set back on the podium. What they probably didn't know was the height of the student accommodation building or whatever else was going to be built there. Yes, it doesn't win any design prizes. It's still better than Dwell and some others though.

Now those on the north face of Adelaidean can enjoy protection from hot winds during summer.

Cheers

Looks like Samaras is clearly wasting his time.
