2KW has some good views, and oddly enough I find the southern stand bar at the Adelaide Oval to have some of the best CBD views. Every time I'm around the Adelaide riverbank I can't help but feel disappointed, it could be so much more but it's completely wasted. I haven't followed the plaza redevelopment thread but I hope we're aiming towards something like Southbank in Melbourne.
Whilst I too am disappointed by the riverbank area we have here, Southbank is possibly the worst thing one could look to replicate, it's basically a bluestone jungle with restaurants that only corporates can afford to dine in. If you want to anything to go by in Melbourne, do something similar to what has been done in South Wharf, a good balance of materials and greening elements.

Really? I'm not a corporate and I've dined there plenty of times. Go figure.

But I agree with Tommo, and like I've said many times, the whole riverbank redevelopment is a huge wasted and lost opportunity. An opportunity that wont come around again for at least a generation if not longer.

The only buildings I would rate as a missed opportunity, or more to the point, total abominations, are the Riverside building and the new RAH. The hospital is just horrific.

The festival centre is not a new missed opportunity - that was done a generation ago. The budget to restore the buildings doesn't allow the changes needed to improve them to the extend required aesthetically. So no missed opportunity really, just something we're lumped with.

The festival tower looks fine. Not amazing, but fine. It blocks out the hotel behind which is a bonus.

If you want a cool view out to the sea from the CBD you can take a lift to the top floor of the Intercontinental, those long vertical windows are in accessible areas of the hotel:

The northern view is pretty incredible too! This is from about halfway up iirc:

But then I only know this because photography is my big hobby and I've spent a lot of time trying to find accessible elevated views of the skyline with only limited success. Which confirms to me that yeah, an observation deck or even a rooftop bar somewhere where the view actually faces the skyline would be incredible.

Can we try and stick to the topic of the thread? It's gone way off and it's getting hard to follow what is actually news on this and what isn't...

In general, how long after proposal do plans become available? So interested to see what's in line for this site.

If no public notification it could be 3-4 months until it is assessed.

When there is news, you'll hear it mate. We usually hear things first, even before the media. No need to bump a heap of threads.

Expected to be approved at next weeks meeting. Not the looker we were hoping for I think?

I actually love it!! Looks really good!!
Looks like a futuristic Bank of LA building. However, it's only showing 2 sides. I hope it looks good on the other 2 sides.

It's no masterpiece, but a bit of a looker by Adelaide's below average standards.

Just looked at the design plans and no inappropriate blank walls!! The only concrete wall is against the neighbouring building. Image

Love it!!! pity it could not have been something similar on the GPO or next to it. Hope it has awnings as well. The one next to it was not going to have footpath cover but this got altered at the very end. Saw it go up in the 1980's.
We will now have 4 bldgs of similar height. Starting to get some real tallies. Great location on KWS. Looking forward to seeing it when I'm over next time.
