Plans are on DAC site expected to be approved on Thursday ....

787 Beds 53m high

I'm surprised this one is so short.

Geez, Brown Falconer have come up with some shockers. This should be narrow and taller, so as to allow less bulk and more windows. I mean, even where they're allowed windows (the segmented central 'tower') they've gone for blank. I only hope something better gets built on the plot immediately south on Waymouth Street to at least partially obscure this, especially from Light Square.

Utterly hideous. Were no lessons learnt from Dwell?

This is far better than Dwell, although that's not saying much...

Is anyone else reminded of the egg carton building on Grenfell Street? Very bland design, and it's unlikely to have the western wall covered up anytime soon.
If you mean the one across from CX - then I actually really like that building heh. Also, seem to be the only one on this forum who doesn't mind this one either, definitely better than Dwell imo, which is surely the epitome of ugly student accom.

Yes, and it is also better than the student accommodation being built on Gray Street. If those two can be approved then you'd think this one would be a certainty. Hopefully I am wrong as it is pretty disgusting.

This is pretty s**t, but its really in a nothing location and will be obscured by bigger builds around it. SCAP has approved worse so I cant see them challenging this.

I don’t hate this as a density filler. It’s only 17 levels so will easily be built out.

Surprising they’ve gone with synergy after the massive delays at Grey street but they’re obviously happy with the result.

From the advertiser.
THE scaffolding is up and the demolition of a low-rise Adelaide CBD building that will pave the way for an up-market, $90 million student accommodation tower has begun.

“Eighteen months construction work should start within the next month,” said Intergen Property Group director Dennis Kalofonos, of the 1836sq m site, at 124-132 Waymouth St.

The student tower was purchased by Sydney property outfit Intergen on behalf of the Singapore based Wee Hur Holdings last year and will be built by South Australia commercial builder, Synergy Construct.

Synergy is behind the recent constructed, 17 storey, $80 million student accommodation at Gray St near West Terrace and is also responsible for the 24-storey office building at 115 King William St, near the Waymouth St intersection

Accommodation numbers at the Waymouth St tower, designed by Adelaide architects Brown Falconer, have already been revised upwards from an initial 721 beds when the site was purchased for $9.275 million last September.

“Through efficient design and market demand we have been able to move the figure up to 821 students,” Mr Kalofonos said.

“We have reduced studio space and come up with more communal, cluster space and more combined living areas.” There are no further alterations to the original design said Mr Kalofonos who was quick to praise City of Adelaide planners.

“The council has been fantastic. It has the most positive looking regime that we work with. They are very diligent and commercial with a good balance and not overwhelming,” he said.

The new building will boast a contemporary IT capability and audio visual and VR room with study rooms for students and visiting academics Mr Kalofonos said.

The completion of 124 Waymouth St – which is now expected in late 2021 – is expected to propel total student residents in the Adelaide CBD to more than 6500.

The projected building work comes in tandem with renewed construction at the adjoining 134 Waymouth, home to the former failed U2 residential block which has been reinvented as Wingfold Tower under new, Chinese ownership.

I hate that these god awful developments get approval and start so quickly. This is disgusting and they will honestly be a blight on our already slowly developing skyline.
The two that are anywhere near decent Have yet to start. I really hope for future we do not have anything like Dwell, this or the cheese on Waymouth.
Waymouth and the west part of the city will look like a dogs breakfast if they continue to develops these shit holes.
Disgusting.

Mate, Synergy might be a dodgy operator, but these student buildings are constructed on a tight budget. If they're cheaper than the other builders then they will most likey get the contract. A lot of the time with contracting work it's a race to the bottom and the cheapest guy wins.
