They really need to promote it better. I have lost count of how many people I have talked to who don't realise that Palace Nova shows most new mainstream movies and not just niche stuff. Even fewer realise that the IMAX screen is still used by them (albeit with a standard projector, but it's still a massive screen)Nathan wrote:Why? This looks amazing! Finally we are seeing some real five star hotels opening up in the CBD. Its about time the big chains got their acts together. Hopefully Crowne will give the others a reason and need to renovate / redevelop...

here's some photos from today. Being a Sunday, there wasn't a lot of people of many outdoor table and chairs out, but this square is most pleasant and nice, and would love to have one of those apartments facing the square

Thanks again! As I said before, the site of the former fountain is begging for an art installation as a focal point.
A pedestrian crossing on the northern edge of the square on Pulteney St would link the two corners. Right now they're separated by seven lanes of traffic with no median.

The site of the former water fountain has been earmarked for another water feature "to be built by others". Not sure why they kept the old brick paving around it. It looks completely out of place and wouldn't be too expensive to replace.

They are linked by a pedestrian crossing at the southern end of the park (Grenfell St), about 90m away, and there is a pedestrian crossing at Rundle St, about 60m away. Surely another one between these two would be hard to justify?AtD wrote:A pedestrian crossing on the northern edge of the square on Pulteney St would link the two corners. Not if we agree about the priority of pedestrians within the city.rhino wrote: They are linked by a pedestrian crossing at the southern end of the park (Grenfell St), about 90m away, and there is a pedestrian crossing at Rundle St, about 60m away. Hopefully that's soon. The space is lacking without it.Pants wrote:The site of the former water fountain has been earmarked for another water feature "to be built by others".

North Tce has a few examples of crossings closer together than that.rhino wrote:They are linked by a pedestrian crossing at the southern end of the park (Grenfell St), about 90m away, and there is a pedestrian crossing at Rundle St, about 60m away. IMO HSQ is the pick of the lot - esp. after 20HS construction. Best ambience and presence of high rise. It even looks like it's attractive to pedestrians to come into and use at lunch etc. The view from the cafe in the SE corner is most impressive.

CROWNE PLAZA ADELAIDE JUDGED
AUSTRALIA’S TOP TOURISM DEVELOPMENT
Hines Property’s Crowne Plaza Adelaide development has been honoured by Australia’s property
industry, with the hotel judged the nation’s best tourism and leisure development.
The landmark Hindmarsh Square hotel was formally acknowledged at the 2012 Property Council of
Australia Innovation & Excellence Awards announced in Sydney on Saturday night.
It was the only South Australian development to receive an award.
Hines Property Managing Director James Hines said the award is a fantastic endorsement for
Crowne Plaza Adelaide and the innovative work of Hines Property.
“Since Crowne Plaza Adelaide opened two years ago, it has welcomed more than 250,000 guests
and become a favourite among local, interstate and international guests,” said Mr Hines.
“This award is a massive accolade and confirms Crowne Plaza Adelaide as one of Australia’s
premier hotels. Receiving such a prestigious national award also underlines the credentials
of Hines Property, which remains committed to making the most of opportunities within the
Adelaide CBD and other Australian capital cities to meet demand for luxury residential, hotel and
commercial developments.”
In 2010, Hines Property completed the 20 Hindmarsh Square development which included two
unique towers, one being the 15-level, 308-room Crowne Plaza Adelaide hotel and the other a 14-
level luxury residential apartment tower.
The Property Council of Australia award is the latest for the development, which last year won
the Accommodation Association of Australia’s Best Deluxe Accommodation Award following its
2010 South Australian Tourism Award for Best New Tourism Development. In 2010, Crowne
Plaza Adelaide was also honoured by the Urban Development Institute of Australia as the Best
Master Planned Development and by the Master Builders Association as the Best Residential
Development in South Australia.
Crowne Plaza Adelaide is one of many award-winning projects by Hines Property, which is an
integrated property development and property investment group with experience across high-rise
residential developments, commercial/retail developments and hotel developments. As one of the
most active developers in SA, Hines Property has recently completed more than $300 million of
developments in the Adelaide CBD area alone.

The hotel might be great and obviously if it's winning awards, but the building is no landmark, it looks like it was built in the 1990s. I see it as one of the most ordinary buildings completed recently in this city. Now 66 Currie street, if that hotel gets built, it will be a landmark!Howie wrote:The landmark Hindmarsh Square hotel
