[COM] Armada Arndale (Redevelopment) | $200m

#1 Post by Howie » Fri Jul 15, 2005 2:51 pm

Hi thought, this would make a nice first shopping complex thread on the sensational-adelaide site.

I'll keep it updated as more news progresses.

Owner's Centro who purchased Arndale shopping center from Westfield earlier on, is proposing a major redevelopment of the complex.

What i hear is that, the current auction house across the road from big w will be demolished and big-w will be relocated to there. What used to be Big W will be a food court, and there is a possibility of a second level.

Over the last few months, they've been doing a few touch-ups on the northern half of the centre, including new windows, plantation around the carparking areas, new signage. More recently the underground car park has been getting a new coat of paint, so it looks almost certain new owners Centro are hoping this proposal will be approved.
Organisation: Centro Properties Group
Project Title: Centro Arndale Redevelopment
Project Details: The redevelopment of Centro Arndale will provide an additional 10,000 sqm of gross lettable area. Additions to the centre will include Fresh Life, Diners Life, a new and expanded Woolworths Supermarket, 30 to 40 new specialty shops, a complete refurbishment of existing malls and improved car parking. The redevelopment will provide 120-150 retail jobs on completion.

The development application goes infront of the assessment panel this month... there was a short article in the messenger newspaper today. centro should have a media release shortly about it.

This development was approved by Charles Sturt Council this week. Set to go ahead start of next year. It's valued at $60m now, and will add 2000 extra car spaces.

With all the firefighters off competing in the police and fire games, now's a good chance to commence some 'upgrades'

The upgrade has already taken place and is now complete.

To fully appreciate it you have to go up to the rooftop carpark.

There you will be able to see that most of the barriers surrounding the rooftop carpark have been painted in a very - erm - unusual dark blue, and the 4 huge concrete lumps sticking out of the rooftop carpark are no longer as ugly as they once were.

They're now even uglier and have been painted various eye-catching colours, depending on what was going cheap at Paint Supplies on the day.

Why not spend a few hours walking around the centre (inside and outside) and see how many different paint colours you can count on the various pillars, fences, walls, doors, signposts, barriers and concrete lumps.

I'm told that no other shopping centre in Australia has such a bright and varied colour scheme. There really is something for everyone at Arndale!
