Hewett: New Residential Area

#46 Post by Norman » Sun Apr 06, 2008 3:45 pm

Hewett is a new residential area north of Gawler. I went past this on my bike today and took a few snaps. Reminds me a bit of Encounter Bay actually...

With those pics (except the last one!) you could just about be in Golden Grove.

Did you catch the train up and go for a ride from there?

Yeah, it was quite a climb too. But the ride back down was awesome

Shouldn't their motto be "Better by 20 country miles" ? ;)

It saddens me a little that we're still developing more low density sprawl out on the margins. Instead of addressing the housing problem more constructively.

people can live where they want, you wouldnt even look at Hewitt or Freeling if you wanted to live in an apartment, some people want space (at the cost of less services) that's life

Yes, but when those apartments aren't also an option? More high and medium density housing gives people choice. Freeing up low density housing for those who choose it. Right now everything's full = no choices.

If I don't start cleaning up my act, when I die I will be sent to live in Hewett.

I repent Lord.

No it wasn't: ;)

A lot of people are buying on the fringes because they can't afford anywhere else. Hell a lot of people are moving to Peterborough because they can't afford a house down here.

What I was saying is that there should be a reasonable amount of choice between high, medium and low density housing without having to continuously open up new tracts of land on the fringes. We need to keep up the urban infill (which is happening but slowly) as well as encourage medium and high density 'villages' that are well serviced by high frequency PT. But no it's cheaper to grade a paddock and install some plumbing.
