Re: Elizabeth/Salisbury | Developments & News
One person wrote a comment about there not being a good market at Elizabeth.
One thing to note is that there are a some people in Elizabeth who do have money. A lot of people
who work at Edinburgh in the defence industry visit Elizabeth shopping centre at lunch time.
There's also a lot of industry in the northern suburbs. You shouldn't think that all the people who live around
Elizabeth don't have much money.
Elizabeth shopping centre is the only major shopping centre that does not have a hand car wash.
All the other main shopping centres (Marion, TTP, Arndale & West Lakes) have one.

An update on the entertainment complex at Salisbury

A $180 million entertainment and retail hub in Salisbury South - including an indoor wave machine - is one step closer to going ahead.
Planning Minister John Rau this week supported moves by Salisbury Council to start a process to rezone the proposed site at the corner of Kings and Main North roads from industrial to commercial.
Developer Jamie McClurg has said the project would create up to 1600 jobs and include a bowling alley, skate park, supermarket, brand outlets and a major hardware store.
The government had previously rejected the project as it initially wanted the vacant land for industrial use, in line with its 30-year plan.
Salisbury Mayor Gillian Aldridge said the project, if approved, would showcase the northern suburbs.
"The developer will now work with their consultant to move the project forward," Ms Aldridge said. "This will have a significant impact on our community with the creation of jobs and providing a focal point for the northern region."
Re: Elizabeth/Salisbury | Developments & News
NO NO NO!!! The 30 year plan for all its flaws sets out cohesive land use zones for the entire metropolitan area. This development will take up a prime industrial site, has a strong retail and leisure component, and in this location will be heavily car dependent. If the council is so keen for such a development surely be better located in the Salisbury town center. That whole area is in need of an upgrade as it is looking shabby and tired. It is also adjacent to the Sailsbury train station and interchange, and therefore it would be possible for people from all over the area to easily access the facilities in this new center by public transport. Sticking it out on Main North road, it has all the hallmarks of being another Harbortown, surrounded by acres of parking, with all the soul of a ghost town.
Re: Elizabeth/Salisbury | Developments & News
Why would they want to build a bowling alley when there is already one down the road - and one that trades very poorly at that.
Re: Elizabeth/Salisbury | Developments & News
Not to mention the "major hardware store" I assume might be Masters, selling pretty much exactly what Bunnings does a stones throw away. No wonder the government is trying to remove some planning powers from the councils when they come up with lazy crap like this.Brucetiki wrote:Why would they want to build a bowling alley when there is already one down the road - and one that trades very poorly at that.

Re: Elizabeth/Salisbury | Developments & News
Given how dead the industrial market is i don't see a problem. Also if Masters wants to open why shouldn't it just because there is a bunnings? The same can be said for the bowling alley, who is to suggest they don't do it Better?

Council hasn't 'come up' with this . This is being pushed by a private developer. The land re zoning is happening through a privately funded DPA.claybro wrote:Not to mention the "major hardware store" I assume might be Masters, selling pretty much exactly what Bunnings does a stones throw away. I have to agree with Weawick. Happy to see competition (and development) in the area!
Re: Elizabeth/Salisbury | Developments & News
I've noticed recently that there are a few commercial buildings popping up along Curtis Road in Munno Para. Also the new KFC on Main North Road at Munno Para Shopping City looks close to opening, can't wait for it to open ????
Re: Elizabeth/Salisbury | Developments & News
A Hungry Jacks restaurant is opening up on Curtis Road at Munno Para ,the new service station (On The Run) next door is coming along well. Speaking of On The Run, i saw a sign up on the fence on Port Wakefield Road at Cavan , didn't this use to be a Shell service station?
Re: Elizabeth/Salisbury | Developments & News
Correct. Closed down about 10 years ago, and Gerrard operated one of his seconds good stores there for a few years (my sister used worked there for a few years, so we bought some stuff from there - just about everything we bought caught fire within 12 months ) and has been sitting dormant since.Eurostar wrote:A Hungry Jacks restaurant is opening up on Curtis Road at Munno Para ,the new service station (On The Run) next door is coming along well. Be good to see a servo on that side of the road, because there really isn't one on that side of the road between Blair Athol and Bolivar (well, there's the other OTR at Dry Creek, but you have to drive a little bit off Pt Wakefield Rd to access it).
