A Bunnings is being built on Panalatinga Road at Reynella, on the old winery factory site (between Pimpala and Reynell Roads, on the western/northbound side).

Another Bunnings is being built at Glynburn Rd, Glynde (Opp. Corner of Pasta Deli - but same side of road). The demo of all the buildings on the site have started.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this the site that Masters tried and failed to get development approval to build on? What changed?

Why do they not just buy the Mitre 10 site as that will surely close if this Bunnings were to be built.

Yes Masters tried on this site to get approval in 2011 and was rejected. Bunnings themselves tried in 2016 -2018 and also got rejected. I am not sure if they had to change plans, buy more land (for say parking) or it had something to do with a change in zoning, planning or Govt.?
Against that Mitre 10 site, Bunnings would probably be 5-10 times the size, so no reason to buy it but yes I agree they may need to close after this gets built, time will tell.

Thousands of tonnes of soil have been dumped on the salt fields north of Adelaide, with speculation mounting that it could be a possible site for housing.

Adelaide company Royal Park Salvage has been spreading soil and fill for months as part of a remediation project that is also restoring large areas of degraded wetlands.

The salt fields were previously owned by a company, Ridley Corporation, which ended salt extraction in 2014 after its sole customer, Penrice Soda, went into liquidation.
Fill dumped on the Dry Creek salt fields.

Ridley Corporation sold a 5500ha parcel of land, including 30km of coastline from Dry Creek to Middle Beach, to Buckland Dry Creek Pty Ltd, which is associated with Royal Park Salvage and another company, Adelaide Resource Recovery.

Neither Adelaide Resource Recovery or Royal Park Salvage have publicly discussed their plans for the land. Attempts by The Messenger to obtain comment from their owner, Peter Jurkovic, were unsuccessful.

However, it has been previously disclosed that Adelaide Resource Recovery had taken over an existing plan to transform the salt fields into a community similar to Mawson Lakes and West Lakes.

The company has had discussions with Renewal SA about the project, which would require rezoning for residential development and a masterplan approved by the State Government.

Creating a masterplanned community with thousands of houses on the Dry Creek salt fields was part of the Greater Adelaide 30-Year Plan released by the former Labor state government.

A concept masterplan was first created by Delfin, the developers behind Mawson Lakes, Golden Grove and West Lakes, with support from a Melbourne urban planning consultancy, Incite.

The plan, which included suburbs, a shopping centre, education facilities and a marina, was shelved when Penrice closed its operations and the salt fields were sold.

Incite was then engaged by Adelaide Resource Recovery to continue developing a masterplan for the land.

The original concept plans for the Dry Creek salt pans which since have been shelved.

It also helped negotiate with the State Government over the route for the Northern Connector, which passes through the salt fields behind Globe Derby Park before joining the Northern Expressway at Waterloo Corner.

Renewal SA said it owned the western portion of the salt fields at Dry Creek while Buckland Dry Creek Pty Ltd owned the eastern portion “including the area currently being filled”.

A spokesman said both areas remained the subject of mining leases and would have to be rezoned before any housing could be developed.

“Renewal SA has reviewed the development potential for the broader salt field in consultation with Buckland Dry Creek Pty Ltd,” he said.

“At this stage there is no agreement on how the site might be developed in the future and no joint venture agreement between Renewal SA and any party to develop the Dry Creek salt fields for residential or other uses.”

Salisbury Council was aware of the possible redevelopment of the salt fields but had not received any formal notification or applications.

Original designs for the dry creek salt pans can be found at https://www.inciteproperty.com.au/projects. A bit unbelievable. It has a light rail link (which appears to utilise a new heavy rail corridor) but what it links to is a mystery. There is a marina but the entrance is via Barker Inlet and under the Northern Connector - you'd be struggling to get a small dingy through there. Also includes a new interchange on Salisbury highway between Port Wakefield Rd and South Road as well as another one the Northern Connector at Globe Derby (which was part of the original Northern Connector plan). That's a lot of expensive infrastructure whose cost will have to be spread over 10,000 homes.

The new Owens-Illinois/ACI warehouse has certainly gone up quick. Was only a few months ago they were demolishing the old Shearer’s/Arrowcrest Plant.

Decent location just off of Henley Beach Road but I'm not too sure how I feel about the design for this one - it's certainly different but I can't quite see how it ties in to the existing local architecture (but then again how do you design a multi-storey apartment building which complements federation villas?). More renders showing the quality of materials would help.

DC Architecture and Interiors has submitted plans — on behalf of Adelaide Sky Corporation — for a five-storey building on the corner of Ebor Ave and Norma St, located one street back from Henley Beach Rd.

The plans include a first floor featuring shop, a one-bedroom apartment, a lobby and 33 parking spaces on the ground level.

The first, second and third floors would contain seven two-bedroom apartments with balconies.

And the fourth floor would have three apartments, either two or three-bedrooms, and a rooftop garden.

The 860sq m block is currently home to a bungalow, which is being used as an office.

According to the plans, the complex is of “a contemporary design” but includes references to the surrounding character homes — some of which were built in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
