I just wish Westfield would fix up the exterior of their Marion centre, Myer and DJs walls need a paint job or some new cladding to bring them out of the 1970s, that area around the office building and the upper level fake statue of liberty sht really needs to be fixed up so it doesn't look so tacky and very badly dated.

Krispy Kreme are opening an outlet in the Western end of the mall (used to be a printer cartridge refill store - opposite the Wendy's location.)

Finally the South will be served their chemical goodness.

The upgrade will add 65 shops across two levels, 10 restaurants and cafes and more than 1000 parking spaces.

Westfield spokeswoman Julia Clarke is keeping details of the development under wraps for the time being.

She wouldn’t provide a start date but told the Guardian Messenger to expect an announcement in the next couple of weeks.
Well it's now November, and still nothing.

We seriously get jibbed in this city. It's time Westfield put Marion on the market and let someone else redevelop and bring Marion out of the 90s

They've been putting off and downsizing this redevelopment for years, what an absolute joke!

Go to Melbourne or Sydney and their Westfield centres are refreshingly beautiful and well-maintained. Come to Adelaide and the three centres they still own are run-down and offer a genuinely awful shopping experience. Marion is the best by far, but that's not hard when you look at the state of TTP and West Lakes.

West Lakes could and should be double the size of what it is, so should TTP; both need major internal upgrades. Marion doesn't need more shops, it needs a facelift.

Colonnades is the nicest of Adelaide's major shopping centres, why? Because it's not owned by Westfield. As for Arndale... Well, who knows? It has a lot of potential being where it is and how much dilapidated land surrounds it but it needs owners who will invest.

Personally, I prefer the concept of a CBD having all your shopping needs and suburban centres having a lot to offer but not everything. But at this rate, we won't have any suburban centres left by the end of the decade.

Well it must be starting soon, ALDI has a Marion Store listed on it's site.
There's a store at (or near) all 3 Westfield locations

It's only because of Aldi

What the centre desperately needs is a complete overhaul of the interior, and space created for stores like Topshop, Zara, H&M etc. Maybe Stage 2 will commence in 2022? :?

It was always going to be a 3 stage project so this is the first hurdle. This will also create some room to
Move tenants for the next stage. Also this new mall will obviously be modern. I imagine it will gradually be rolled out to the rest of the centre.

I was surprised to see the ad in the Messenger as it's the first I have heard of stage 1 commencing.
I think it's a but weird it's starting so close to Christmas.
Doesn't look like a significant upgrade - but an expanded fresh food offer will be welcomed by me, as current offer is very poor.

IN the countdown to Christmas, one of Adelaide’s biggest shopping centres has began a $350-million, five-year redevelopment, that’s been in the pipeline for years.

A large section of the carpark has today been fenced off between Dan Murphy’s and the Woolworths entrance.

Work on the upgrades is expected to start this month.

The first part of the extension is a 3000sq m expansion of the centre’s western end to create a fresh food precinct, replacing 168 carparks.

It will include an Aldi supermarket and about 14 specialty retailers.

$350m Westfield Marion shopping centre revamp will start this month.

Also, who starts a redevelopment leading in to Christmas/sale season, rather than waiting until mid-Jan/Feb?

The centre should be expanding northward, incorporating the civic centre, the swimming centre, and eventually join up with a bus and train interchange at the diagonal road crossing with the elevated station and overpass plan. Make it a mini cbd. The whole area north of the centre is a dogs breakfast at present with no real focus, and no connectivity between the train station, shopping centre, public facilities and bus stop area.

It was a mistake building the state aquatic centre there and not closer to the city.

On the upside SA finally got an outstanding swimming facility that has already attracted national and international competitions.
