Well that sucks, it seems doing it in stages will only make it more expensive in the long run as well.

the federal budget and the economic downturn really gave the premier no option here. you cant just keep spending billions of dollars you dont have else we'll end up like Spain...in an economic sense
Federal Labor however must bear full responsibility for neglecting this state in favour of QLD/WA.

How will the new electric cars on the "Seaford" line get to rail car depot at Dry Creek if the electrification has been suspended there?

Electrification and Resleepering of suburban rail network

You can't let irrational fears of debt keep deferring the construction of vital infrastructure, or else we'll end up like Britain... in an economic sense!

Our state has a AAA credit rating, so borrowing more money is not a problem. If genuine efficiency savings can be made, they should, but postponing electrification isn't an efficiency saving, it's a false economy.

And make no mistake, the Premier does have a choice. Anyone who thinks genuine efficiency savings can't be made is ignoring the elephant in the railyards!
Federal Labor however must bear full responsibility for neglecting this state in favour of QLD/WA.
As with Federal Liberals before them, Federal Labor before that, and so on. Was there ever a point in our state's history when Federal funding was abundant?

They shouldn't need to? Isn't that why they are building facilities at Seaford Meadows as well?

I can understand the Outer Harbor line, Belair lines and Port Adelaide tramline being held back but the Gawler line?

the rating is about to be downgraded thanks to our debt, and you want more debt, which means higher interest and more difficulty borrowing
we're already being slugged additional fees on our government services with this budget and yet you want them to spend more and more

maybe you should give Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo or JP Morgan a call and offer up your services

Hang on, I thought the Federal Government was funding the Gawler line?? But still, why do we have the $400m Southern Expressway duplication and the $800m Superway being built and they cant find $200m for the electrification of the Gawler Line, they should have suspended the Southern Expressway duplication!!! :x

Oh well, one line being electrified is better than none I suppose

yep I was right, the cost of Gawler line electrification and trackwork was ~$365M and the federal govt is funding ~$293m of it, which means the SA govt needed to fund ~$72m. I cant believe the SA govt cant find $72m for a the city's longest and busiest rail line but can find $400m for widening a freeway

This is also the line that was closed for 7 months recently and commuters had to put up with shit replacement buses during this time but it was all going to be worth it, yeah beacuse they were going to get better services withing 18 months.... looks like that was a load of bullshit and now the poles they erected for electricfication just look fucking ridiculous.

But all is ok people! we found $13.2 million to upgrade a bloody road intersection! Link: http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/sout ... 6377304054
