I just hope they follow through on the plans to build a shared pedestrian/cycle path off to the side. I drive the PREXY every day and I don't think its wise to have cyclists using the road shoulder as a de-facto bike lane. Not with cars and trucks zipping by at 90 kph. the NC is supposed to be designed for 110kph.
It astounds me that the PREXY was built seemingly without any thought for providing a separated cycle path.

AFAIK there's no safe and easy way for cyclists to get from Salisbury/Mawson Lakes and Port Adelaide. I work at ASC and a lot of my fellow workers ride cycles and live in the Para Hills region, where housing is still pretty affordable.
Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.

Regardless of whether or not a bike path is included, bikes won't be allowed on the NC... It's a freeway grade road...

Who would of thought a couple of years ago we would have three major road projects being undertaken at once??... quite impressive.
T2T
Darlington Interchange
Northern Connector

Crazy to look back at the time when the $41m Bakewell and Anzac Hwy underpasses were seen as major ticket items. That in itself has shown Adelaide has already changed so much.

Now time for public transport ;)

What's everyone's tip on what the final name of the road will be?
Our state, our city, our future.

My tip is Northern Expressway, but my preferred name would be Charles Sturt Freeway, from where the divided road starts near Nuriooptpa, (where it's the Sturt Highway) all the way down through the City of Charles Sturt at Hindmarsh. Maybe a different name south of the Torrens.
cheers,
Rhino

Probably just the North-South Motorway or Freeway.

Perhaps we could name it after some former Premiers or prominent South Australians?

The Hart Bypass after John Hart, Premier in the 1860s. His son John Hart Junior was a founding member of the Port Adelaide Football Club which has won more premierships than anyone.

The Dunstan Deviation, after DA Dunstan.

The Upper Downer Highway after Sir John Downer.

The Butler Service Road, after Sir Richard Butler.

I have far too much time on my hands....

So everyone named Matt is barred from driving on it, or are we allowed to have one?

Hart Bypass. #rofl

I like the Mats Freeway, just for a bit of tongue in cheek humour.

You're off your rocker. It NEVER seems to be the time for Public transport in this state. epic sad face :( :wallbash:
