To dismiss academic studies as just opinion is to misunderstand the nature of academic research. A reputable study will include at least three elements: a survey of existing work in the field, an investigation of a specific research question which in the case of transport will often be empirical observation or use of modelling techniques and an analysis and interpretation of the research results. Some opinions may be contained in the reporting of the research, but it would be expected that the opinions are either substantiated by the investigation or previous work or are left as open questions that may form the subject of further investigation. I am not saying that opinions should be expressed but the opinions that are more useful for the development of effective transport systems are those that based on study, experience and rational argument.

But that is not to say that all studies are wrong or subject to outside influence, which is why the survey of previous work and also the process of peer review are important.

On Channel 9 news tonight it was announced that $15 million will be allocated in tomorrows State Budget to building new Park"N'Ride facilities at Klemzig station as well as extensions to existing facilities at TTP. No mention of anything at Paradise Interchange?

Why is the South Australian government building park and ride facilities at Klemzig?
Where have the people come from who will park there?
If people are so lazy that they dont want to take the bus the whole way home, fine , but they should pay a premium for parking so close to the city.
Parking at O-Bhan interchanges defeats the whole purpose of a one-ride home experience....

If the new Park and Rides are like the ones at TTP, they still have to pay to park there.

My guess (so take it with as many shovels of salt as you like) is that they are trying to scoop up people who otherwise would drive into the city. A bit like the car parking at the Hindmarsh Entertainment Centre which costs, but has a free tram to town.

In some ways, having (free) parking on the fringes, and fast public transport into the city, is a model that could ease peak hour congestion considerably. At least it's worth a try.

Anything that keeps cars out of the CBD, but still makes it easy enough to get there is surely a good thing.

New way-finding signs are currently being installed at the 3 O-Bahn Interchanges-they will display layout of each Interchange, what buses go from each zone.roads, car parks, toilets ticket machines and other amenities.

I'm surprised there was nothing for Paradise. Every day there the nearby roads are clogged with cars parked higgledy piggledy especially Darley Road. Overflow parking behind the fire Station forces people to cross a few lanes of traffic just to get to their bus which is not very safe at all.
Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.

An article from In Daily discussing the Adelaide City Coucil's desire for the state government to redesign Grenfell Street.
The article claims the new O-Bahn tunnel will add 600 (yes six hundred!) extra buses per day into Grenfell/Currie.
