Because at Panalatinga SEXY only has a northbound entrance and a southbound exit, which means there's no way onto the Expressway to head south, or get off heading north, between Marion Rd and Sherriffs Rd, which makes SEXY a pointless bit of decoration for the people living in Aberfoyle Park, Happy Valley, Flagstaff Hill, Coromandel Valley wanting to head for Noarlunga and beyond.

Given the mess that is SEXY x Panalatinga x Main South/Reynella Bypass x Kenihans/Old South, a simple set of on-off ramps in both directions at Majors would be ideal - and they already have basic on-off ramps for the MFS depot right next to the bridge.
I've argued you only need Northbound offramps, and southbound on ramps.
If the mess at Panalatinga were to be reconfigured similar to Bolivar on the Northern Connector (in both cases the motorway and main road run parallel briefly) then the case for Majors Road becomes almost redundant, it's not as if they don't have the space. They've got two options, improve the Panalatinga interchange or build a new interchange at Majors Road.
There is room to add northbound off ramps and southbound on ramps at Panalatinga...the mindboggles why they weren't incorporated.

The traffic modelling at the time of duplication showed that there wasn't enough demand to justify the additional cost n providing the extra ramps. That was shown in the final Project Impact report.

There is little traffic on the road with nearly nothing built on it.
Only the suburbs of Hallett Cove and Sheidow Park would see any benefit and it would be a very small benefit.

The entry/exit does not exist because it would be a giant waste of money.
Yes that's how I remember it. So why all the angst about about an entry/exit to the expy?

that's exactly it. the stretch between marion road and the reynella interchange heading north is too long with no entry exit points and between sherriffs rd and marion road heading north as you can't exit at the reynella interchange is even longer. everytime there's an accident on the downhill run at Darlington and you're not aware of it and you enter the SEXY at sherriffs rd you're screwed as there's no exit until marion road.

I’ve wondered a few times whether the solution for south access to the expressway at majors might be a bit further south, opposite st Frances winery.

A one lane flyover over south road (or traffic lights) for cars entering the expressway heading south, and a 1 lane flyover for cars exiting the expressway heading north.

A few updates from current projects

Pym to Regency
The new surface roads are taking shape north of Recency Road and north of Pym Street. The structures for the pedestrian overpass are almost complete.

The remains of the former Polonia Reserve are now open to the public as a park.

Darlington
As mentioned before, the exit from the lowered motorway to South Road at Darlington (Petrol Station Central) is now open.

Also, 2 lanes of the lowered south-bound lanes have now been opened on their final alignment. The finishing touches are now being added to the wall where the collapse occurred a few months back, including putting all the side panels up.

North-South tunnels ‘to cost $11bn’
SEE THE VIDEO Tunnels along South Rd to finish the North-South Corridor would cost $11 billion, the construction industry says, and should be dumped. “This is Adelaide, not New York,” they say.

What rubbish. I wish the government would actually release the studies so everyone else can stop talking out their arse.

Yes, but it had the desired effect of making it look as though the Libs were doing something without having to commit to anything yet. The next section should have started as soon as Darlington was complete and in conjunction with Regency. So now.. expect a breathless announcent of a preferred option as an election sweetener of something resembling the original Labor plan, followed by detailed planning, and just maybe, the Libs MIGHT start this after Regency, mid next term a full 6 years after they originally came to power (if they win). Cue then a flood in Queensland, pulling of federal funds, and it will all come to a stop.

If it is a full tunnel, I believe it will be the longest road tunnel in Australia at 11km. NorthConnex in Sydney is 9km and WestConnex has different tunnels between 7.5km and 9km.

NorthConnex cost $3b, but I guess it wouldn't be comparable to ours because of a different geology.

For such a short 1.8 km section that links a stretch with noise walls (T2T) to a stretch that has no noise walls (Superway) it would've looked better to just use the T2T noise wall design. Go all out for a different design on the long central section, but this section should at least try to blend with what's already there.

I don’t think many people are calling for a tunnel the full remaining 11km stretch.

The inner west section from the river to Anzac highway is a different story, loads of character houses and a very vocal action group that would be immediately mobilised if there is mass disruption. Worst case a cut & cover tunnel through this section would work if it minimises disruption.
