The plan says that the Pym St - Regency Rd section procurement starts early 2019 and runs until mid 2019. The planning & design starts and runs until the end of 2019. Construction starts at the beginning of 2020 and runs until mid 2022. So it is technically correct to say that it will srat in early 2019 but we probably wont see anything happening on site until 2020. It may be that they are deliberately spinning it out to (a) Get a lower price because not so much stuff will have to be brought in from interstate and (b) Keep local industry going until the next stage of South Rd is ready to start.

The "start" of a project like that always depends on who is talking, and what they look at. Is property acquisition and demolition before or after the start? What about engineering design, tendering for construction, detailed design and procurement of equipment? As T2T is showing, the "end" is a bit rubbery too.

The "start" of a project like that always depends on who is talking, and what they look at. Is property acquisition and demolition before or after the start? What about engineering design, tendering for construction, detailed design and procurement of equipment? As T2T is showing, the "end" is a bit rubbery too.

I was always under the impression that project completion was December this year (ie this month). Landscaping and minor works were to be the final step of the project.

I suspect it was sloppy use of terms. It had originally been announced as completed at the end of this year I think. But then was announced as ahead of schedule and opening three months early. Perhaps "ahead of schedule" was editorial sloppiness, and it opened for traffic exactly when it was scheduled to open, several months before full project completion.

Yes, but they are known differently for how committed they are to Public Works projects (infrastructure, public transport, hospitals, schools ...). While they have both committed to finishing the North-South Expressway, I believe one party would accomplish it quicker than the other. Just my opinion.

A little unfair given that the former Liberal government completed the Mount barker freeway (including Heysen Tunnels) a massive undertaking given the states finances at the time, and also the Southern Expressway (although only one way)-which contrary to popular lore was only meant to be a stop gap measure as finances allowed at the time. Also retired the Red Hen rail cars and completed rollout of the 3000 series. Also pretty sure the duplication of Pt Wakefield road was completed in that era? Bearing in mind the Rann /Weatherill government was in power for a lot longer, I'm not sure their record is that much better.

after driving from the new part to the superway, bloody hell I hope it is done.

You forget how bad the South Road /Port Road Intersection was until you drive the Pym Regency Road section, then it comes screaming back at you.

Liberal has also noticed that the state extends past the Adelaide urban boundary. I believe that the Port Wakefield intersection and the Joy Baluch Bridge are also on the Liberal agenda, whereas Labor didn't care as nobody drives that far.

That's not true, Labor put up their share of the money for the Jay Baluch bridge in the budget before the election.

Noticed on my way to work this morning that the former rug shop the builders were using as a depot has been cleared out and the fences removed on the corner of South and Grange Roads. I wonder what will happen with this building now with all its smashed windows and graffiti...
