What would be the point of that? Qatar already go to Melbourne.

Route consolidation? Combining the Melbourne and the Adelaide routes maybe??

Does anyone know if there's any plans to expand the pickup / drop off zone at the airport ?

It's pretty busy there, I can't see the current setup being sustainable as passenger numbers increase
over the next few years.

I don't think they can go via Melbourne, they already used up all their slots at the major airports.

Pretty disappointing if true, but it's an arrangement that worked for Cathay Pacific for many years. It's not that bad to spend an extra couple hours going via Melbourne on the way if you can fly straight into Adelaide on the way home.

True, I always believed Adelaide got the better deal from that route. Would've hated stopping off in Melbourne on the way back.

If Adelaide is used as a tag on then the slots are not affected. I think under the Qatar agreement, it is 21 flights to the 4 majors plus 7 via a secondary port (ADL, CNS, OOL, DRW etc)

If true, I reckon it might reverse triangulate. Example 3 a week DOH-ADL-MEL-DOH, 4 a week DOH-MEL-ADL-DOH. They would want to keep Adelaide as direct (but you have to choose you days of travel correctly to get ADL-DOH-ADL) just to keep passenger levels going.

If true they have done this smartly and I reckon it was planned from the start. Melbourne is a very high performing route for Qatar with constantly over sold flights I am told. The airline is probably sending MEL pax to ADL anyway. They have no slots left for Australia, they can't upgrade MEL to an A380 as they don't have enough, so they utilise a secondary airport they currently serve as loophole to help cater a slot restriced airport and fill a plane (which may of been half full).

Any of you avgeeks know the likelihood of Hobart flights coming any time soon? Also, bets on the next international airline to come to Adelaide (other than China Southern)

The last couple of times that I have come back in to Adelaide airport, I have noticed that the number of planes parked overnight for the morning exodus has increased.
It used to be that the overnight aircraft took up all of the aerobridge bays.
There are now a number parked down near gate 50 and even more around where the old terminal was.

Would definitely say the number of aircraft movements is increasing

Hopefully I've got something to report. I'm doing Prague-Munich-Doha-Adelaide but the cheapskates gave me only 50 minutes to leg it from a schengen terminal to international at Munich, and i always get delayed like hell leaving Prague anyway. Only thing going my way is the flight in to Munich is Luthansa who are one of the better airlines around here.

My old lady has done the QA Doha to Adelaide leg and she pretty much told me to prepare for the all time worst in flight movie collection.

While I've never had a problem getting out of Prague, this is where Emirates succeeds. Praha to Dubai, then to Adelaide. Jednoduchý proces. Doing an extra flight in Europe sucks.

A few changes happening at Adelaide Airport

Virgin Australia are finally upgrading and expanding their lounge. We have been well behind the other capitals on this one.
