You can already book connecting flights with Air NZ for Christchurch, Wellington and Queenstown from Auckland.
Is there really that much demand for flights to New Zealand?

I doubt it. Even the flights to Auckland are not daily during the winter months. I would rather have the current market mature for a while after those China Southern flights are added before we add any further capacity.

Just heard on the grapevine (Twitter) that Qatar will reduce their frequency to 5 flights a week from October 30.

Its due to aircraft shortage, the production/delivery rates of the A350's are well and truly behind. Qatar aren't happy about it, so they have to re-shuffle the network to get the right balance and keep customers/airports happy.

I've flown on the new Qatar service there and back recently and the plane was full both times. That's a shame but five times a week isn't bad, and better than being triangulated with Melbourne.

Emirates and China Southern were both introduced following business deals done by the state government.
Would the SA government do the same thing with another airline such as Thai Airways ?
I doubt it. Thailand is a poor country so I wouldn't think it would be much of a boost to the local economy.
It would mainly be just sleazy old men from travelling there for a week or two and then coming back lol.

With the failure of Masters , the airports property development strategy is looking a bit under pressure. particularly at Parafield Airfield where they have a ridiculous amount of unused vacant land. Maybe it is time for the super funds who own these assets to take a different approach. The best place for to build a new airport for Adelaide would be where the current salt pans are at St Kilda. This is a large flat site with air approaches over the sea, relatively close to the city and with great land transport infrastructure. They could sell the land at Parafield for 100s of millions of dollars and build a new airport at St kilda for a fraction of the value. In 25-50 years they could move the light aircraft to Murray Bridge and upgrade it into a full scale Jet base for Adelaide and sell the Adelaide Airport land.

Plus easy connections to the North South Corridor/Northern Connector.

While I can't see an economic case for relocating the airport in the next 50 years or so, certainly past that point it might be wise to look at where a replacement mught be located, and put a reservation on that land.
Maybe Tailem Bend, with a fast train to the CBD. Or a maglev? Certainly would need a tunnel as well. However, in 50 plus years that might be technically and economically feasible as well.

Do you know what is easier than building a maglev train so you can get from the CBD to the airport in 15 minutes? Having an airport that's only 15 minutes away.

I don't understand how this statement...

...supports or leads to this conclusion...

Exit on the right in the direction of travel.

I was talking 50 years or more hence. Of course, for all we know airports might shrink in that time. However, it's not silly at all to think fifty years ahead for some sorts of infrastructure. Water authorities do that for dam sites, for example. Badgery's Creek must have been in some investigation file somewhere that time frame in the past. It probably should have been done for north-south freeway travel Gawler-Mt Barker-Victor Harbor to secure a corridor, along with another corridor of some sort Adelaide to Tailem Bend, be that maglev or something else.
Long term planning was once an integral part of the role of government.
