If one thing has happen correctly in Adelaide transport planning is that they left the most southern transport corridor reserve intact, even if the need for the infrastructure itself is years off. The Southern Expy was largely constructed on land already reserved decades ago. Actual forward planning that should have been better adhered to over the rest of the metro area, particularly the inner North/South corridor. Two potential sites for Aldinga Railway Station revealed

The State Government is asking the Aldinga community where a future railway station should be built in their suburb.
Renewal SA has proposed two locations for a train station on a 94ha block of land, bounded by Main South, Aldinga Beach, Quinliven and How roads.
One site is next to the Aldinga super school being built on 14ha of vacant land on Quinliven Rd.
The birth to Year 12 school will cater for up to 1675 students and is expected to open in time for the start of the 2022 school year.
The other location faces out onto Aldinga Beach Rd.
The station would cater for any future extension of the railway line from Seaford to Aldinga.
According to the Aldinga Structure Plan, the option next to the school would make it easier for students to access the campus while the other site was closer to Southern Vale Christian College and shops on How and Aldinga Beach roads.
The structure plan will be used by Renewal SA to determine future uses for the land, and the infrastructure needed to develop it.
It allows for the $305 million Main South Rd duplication, from Seaford to Aldinga, which is expected to start this year.
Up to 1000 new homes are proposed for the site.
Renewal SA has previously said that it wants to ensure future developments are “seamlessly linked” with the existing Aldinga area and the broader region.
Aldinga is one of SA’s fastest growing regions and Onkaparinga Council will work with Renewal SA to ensure the plan caters for current and future residents.
The structure plan is expected to be complete by mid-2019.
The State Government purchased the land in 1989 as part of Metropolitan Adelaide’s future land bank. It is currently leased for cropping.

Public consultation closes on Sunday, April 7.
Have to agree, that even when presented with an opportunity to build proper hubs, on greenfield sites, all levels of government responsible for these developments seem to baulk. Have to come to the conclusion that the rail system is seen more of an afterthought in SA,- something that has to be worked around rather than WITH. It is a shame, because the bones are there to create a much more integrated metro area, linked by rail, even using the existing setup, with some relatively minor adjustments. Sure it all costs billions, but they are spending that anyway, for questionable extra benefit at present. Have the extra numbers using the Seaford line justified the expense so far? -Has the journey time greatly sped up? Has the connectivity to services/retail zones increased? Has urban renewal opportunities in existing areas been created? Why not ?! Its probably only one more stop (and that will be the end of the line) Spend the money now (because it will only get more expensive in the future)
And it gives the government a chance to get ahead of the sprawl and plan some decent services around the railway stations ie the shopping centre and bus interchange built around the train station. Planning 101 in the rest of the world but oh no, not in Adelaide, lets build the shopping centre AWAY from the public transport...... and how about some decent medium density within walking distance of the town centre....
