Night works scheduled for Thursday night (weather permitting) to test the large profiling machine to excavate the upper layer of the road. They'll be testing along a 50m stretch near Stephens Place.
Will they be going straight from the KWS intersections to Stephens Pl?
I imagine they won't be starting right at the intersection, as that would be more disruptive for the sake of a test. It'll just be between KWS and Gawler Place, "in the vicinity of Stephens Place".

Notice:
The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) would like to notify you of additional night works along North Terrace, between King William Road and Pulteney Street, as part of the City Tram Extension project.

These works are scheduled for the evening of Thursday 17 August 2017, weather permitting. The works will occur between the hours of 8pm and 6am Friday morning.

These works will involve testing the use of a large profiling machine to excavate the upper layer of the roadway in preparation for the construction of the new tram tracks. The test of the profiler will occur along a 50 metre stretch of North Terrace, between King William Road and Gawler Place, in the vicinity of Stephens Place.

These works are being undertaken at night in order to minimise the impact to road users and to complete the works as safely and efficiently as possible. Access to businesses and properties will be maintained throughout the works.

Speed and lane restrictions will be in place in the vicinity of the works, however the road will remain open to traffic in both directions at all times. A 25km/h speed restriction will be in place while workers are on site.

Every effort will be made to minimise noise impacts to nearby residents and businesses. However, some noise will be unavoidable during the works period.

DPTI appreciates your patience and cooperation whilst these important works are undertaken. For real time roadwork information, download the Addinsight app for Apple or Android or visit the
Traffic SA website at www.traffic.sa.gov.au.

Regular project updates will be posted on the project website as it becomes available. To receive project updates via text or email register your interest at www.citytramextension.sa.gov.au.

Significant sections of kerbing and footpath are marked up along the northern side adjacent the oRAH. Appears this may be for excavation/road widening?

Perhaps some service relocation.

A large section of North Terrace was closed off yesterday, between North Terrace and the Museum Precinct.

In that PDF, the Festival Plaza tram stop is up further along King William Street past the Festival Centre. Yet in the video concept, it's adjacent Festival Plaza... which makes alot more sense. #confused

The video is quite a bit older than the PDF.

SA Water was replacing water mains.

The new stop in King Wm St Nth is closer to Adelaide oval, and also convenient to the river.

I thought the point was to better connect the new Festival Plaza?. The first stage of the northern link, which will eventually go past Adelaide Oval and into North Adelaide and Prospect Road. If this is the new location, then they may aswell extend it by a few hundred metres and connect it with the Adelaide Oval precinct.

I may well be talking out of my backside here, so take it with a shovel full of salt, but it seems there are several things at work.

1). They had a bit of extra money for the project, so they might as well go a bit further towards Prospect.

2). There's already a lot of stops crowded around the Festival Centre and Parliament House. So, realistically, how much more traffic will it bring?

3). There's probably a decent load of passengers to the river bank area in Spring/Summer/Autumn - and the Festival Centre isn't open all the time, so it's often dead.

4). The proposed stop is a good compromise between Adelaide Oval, the Festival Centre and the river bank area.

5). We don't know if that extension is going to be used for regular services. It might only be used when there's something on at the Festival Centre, the Oval, or a pop-up function in the park (like the Asian festival last year).

6). When the line to Prospect is in service, and there's something going on in King Wm St such as the Oz Day parade, or the Pageant, then the proposed stop location, with its crossover can be used to turn round trams from Prospect.

The revised location for the stop could be to better align with the new promenade.

The minister for transport Mr Mullighan said the main reason the original tram stop was moved was to allow the safe access & disembarkment for the disabled. The original area has quite an an incline/decline near the Festival centre and opposite.

The SA Water works are replacing pipes that range from 60 to 130 years old. Once this is done I would expect tram works to accelerate quickly. The SA Water works are happening at night.

The original area also has a traffic-light-controlled pedestrian crossing. SInce that would only be at one end of the platforms, then surely some creative use of a large bulldozer could have addressed the gradient of the stop by increasing the gradient of the track either side of it.

Agreed. I don't think they even would have had to be that creative. This will be a bit of a shemozzle. Lets see what routes they come up with.
