The promise of the City South tram stop being renewed has been in the budget twice before, and nothing has been done. Hopefully they will actually build it this time around...

I note here the absence of funding for the north terrace right hand turn! Interesting - the Libs have left it out it seems. Maybe I have reacted too soon.

It is in the budget actually. $37m was allocated for the project.

Careful what you wish for. Rectification to the new North Terrace stops are evidently part of the reason the whole stretch is rendered unfit for public use months after the track were laid. It will be interesting how much disruption will occur at the Southern end.

$600,000 for yet another business study on the city loop? How many have been done so far and what justifies another? Wish they just bite the bullet and put that money towards detailed plans.

Building a new line and upgrading an existing line's stop and track are two very different things.

I guess they haven't done it on theirs.

We have two options I guess, their loop or their North Adelaide Extension? or wait, Three - no trams :(

I wonder if they consulted with Melbourne on this?

Usually when track gets like it is in King Wm St Sth, Melbourne usually welds up the dished joints, grinds off the corrugations, cuts out and re-concretes the loose bits.

If they did consult with Melbourne and it was deemed necessary to relay the line, I hope they will use Whyalla rail, and not the imported stuff. Why use overseas gear when SA produced stuff does an equally good job. I'm serious. Standard grooved tram rail is only needed on curves.

That was under Labor though

The Libs have allocated $600,000 in today's budget to investigate expanding of tram services in the CBD. The budget also allocates $3.7M towards the the renewal of the City South Tram stop and $7.9M for replacing the tracks between Victoria Square and South Terrace.
I can't help but feel cynical about that 'investigation', especially $600k to do it.

Sure, but the department management is pretty much the same though. I don't know where the holdup was.

Can anyone explain how upgrading the City South tram stop can cost $3.7m (from today’s budget)?

I'd like to see some real time info screens placed at all the city and major stops.

Cannot understand why this wasn't included with the new extension. Yet the former Labor Government introduced them at major bus stops.

You could build five houses for that much. I'd also question the need to relay track there too.

I mean, take $37.5m, plus save $3m here, plus just do a 20 year overhaul on the track (like Melbourne does) and save $7m. That's $47.5m. They could put that to extending the tram from the Botanic Gardens to Hutt Street, or from Riverside to Adelaide Children's Hospital.
