They should include 'bus only' stopping areas and bus priority signals to facilitate a continuous bus lane.
Be sure to make a submission then https://yoursay.sa.gov.au/decisions/you ... rade/about

There's no reason Peter Van couldn't wrangle a deal with the government to relocate to a new building on the corner next to the high school where the existing road will be removed. Might work out cheaper for the government.
Would be a shame to lose the green space though. How about the area where the eastern end of Daws Road will be deleted? Looks big enough.

Probably better to just find a new site elsewhere (or close up shop and retire) - if they relocated across the road then they would probably be stuck without a premises for 12-18 months while the intersection & a new premises is built.

Why are people saying they are pleased Bedford isn't being touched when Bedford actually wants to move to new, larger digs and were going to use the sale money to do it?

All the Liberals have done is flip the original plan over, choosing to inconvenience all the stakeholders rather than go back to the previous plan after everyone shot down their idiotic 'upgrade'

That's where I was referring to, would save the government having to remediate the area into something else and would solve one of the acquisition hurdles with this proposal.

Caltex service station on the corner of Daws and Goodwood Road has closed and is now fenced off.

Ridiculous that this was allowed to be built only a few years back. :wallbash:

Who should have stopped it, and what would it have cost?

Did the ALP or DPTI have a plan to remodel that intersection in future at the time the servo was built? Did the plan require the land the servo is on? What would the headlines have looked like? "SA Government pays Caltex to not build a service station"

My point was not to not allow them to build, but I'm reasonably confident that there would have been a much cheaper option for the Government to have purchased this land before the Service Station was rebuilt (it had been vacant for years).
This intersection has been on the cards for years and whilst no plans were in place it was always going to happen sooner rather then later.

Who's budget would include the money to buy every property that may or may not be part of a future road project?
Also factor in the lost employment, GST, income tax, land tax, council rates, water and sewage etc etc for whatever time period until this unknown project is actually to occur.

What if the owner did not want to sell the site?

Once the project is planned, funded and announced the property is compulsory acquired.

I agree. But on another note, weren't those vacant properties behind Peter Van's acquired and demolished by the Rann government years ago? So there was at least some level of reasonable interest by the Rann government. Doesn't look like there was concern over lost taxes, rates and levies for those sites.

My money would be that the owner didn't want to sell the site and the government couldn't force them since there were no concrete plans allowing them to use compulsory acquisition. Then the government lost interest some time after that until the Weatherill government announced its plans in 2017.

Let’s look at the two plans.

Labor clearly shows Peter Van and Caltex still in place.

Liberals are just cutting right through this.

Is this another moment of stupidly, party politics, we can’t be seen doing what the other side has planned. Instead of doing what is best!

This state is so “french word” sometimes!!

Libs probably thinking it’s cheaper to avoid acquiring Bedford Industries, regardless of whether BI wanted and needed to move to a new site. Cheaper and easier to buy homes and the petrol station.

Were Labor’s plans ever concrete or just a conceptual “we’d like to put the road here” and not yet investigated? But Libs were definitely playing party politics at the beginning they wanted to keep the dog leg intersection.

Pretty sure they were as concrete as any plan can be before an election.

Recall the first abortive Liberal plan was to keep the two T junctions and just stick in extra lanes, before they were shouted down by every stakeholder so hard they started dodging questions and commitments.
