Why wouldn't you just utilise the controlled turn from hampstead onto NE? Intersection capacity and sequencing suggests that's the intended route.

Fosters Road is insignificant beyond local access given it terminates at NE and GJ rds, hard to see why they'd let it interfere with a major arterial like NE.

I assume the references on p16 of the report to "Council owned section of Fosters Road" and "Council owned Fosters Road" refer to the road to the west of the OTR.
All roads are owned by council. Council is only responsible for maintaining certain roads, with DPTI being responsible for others, however the land on which all roads are built is owned by the council of that area, regardless of who is responsible for maintaining the physical road itself.

Council might own the land but DPTI annual report suggests they own 15 billion dollars worth of road assets (p131).

Not sure if or when this has been posted. It's a very handy interactive map from DPTI of infrastructure projects across Adelaide.

Announced in the budget:
The intersection of Springbank, Daws and Goodwood roads will be redesigned, but the project has not been costed.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-06-22/s ... ow/8616932
With the impending closure of The Repat, could we see this intersection realigned using some of The Repat land? This could be a relatively cheap fix for an intersection which causes considerable delays.

The recent realignment of Bolivar and Kings road as a part of the Northern Connector project cost $3.4 million. In theory, a realignment at Goodwood/Daws/Springbank could be completed for a similar price.

Except they have just completed a brand new shell petrol station on the corner, unless they compulsory acquire it less than a year after it opened, after the site being vacant for the preceding 10 years? Smart move SA gov.

From Adelaide Now
The intersection of Springbank, Daws and Goodwood roads will receive an upgrade.

The cost of revamping the road was not included, but Treasurer Tom Koutsantonis said the Budget included “contingency funds” to realign the intersection to improve the safety and traffic flow.

The government will need to buy land to realign the roads and will consult the affected residents before a final design is approved.

Currently along the roads, there are two T-junction about 124m apart, which create congestion and cause major safety risks.

More than 60,000 cars travel through the intersection, which connects the CBD with the southern and eastern suburbs and 21 crashes have happened at the roads between 2012 and 2016, resulting in 24 casualties.

Transport Minister Stephen Mullighan said the upgrade would reduce traffic delays and improve safety.

“Anyone who drives along this section of Goodwood Rd, or approaches from Springbank or Daws roads, knows how congested and slow it can be through this intersection,” Mr Mullighan said.

“This upgrade will improve travel times and make it safer for motorists.”

Planning and design of the upgrade was set to start immediately, while construction will begin in 2018.

I don't think the service station would cause too much of an issue.

The alignment, relative to each other, of Springbank/Daws is basically the same as the relative alignment of Daws/Oaklands. Doing a quick copy and past of the Daws/Oaklands link road onto Springbank/Daws shows that the service station could remain untouched.

You can see the service station in blue and the current Daws Rd in red.

The southern entrance to the service station would be made redundant and it's likely that the eastern entrance would need to be reprofiled, however the service station itself could remain.

I'm sure the smart people over at DPTI have something in mind, be it this, or something else. Hopefully one of these intersections is removed when the work eventually occurs.

Bedford Industries, which is on the south-eastern corner of the intersection, has previously said that they are happy to sell some of their land for the intersection upgrade, so I will assume that is the way the upgrade will go. This means Springbank Road will be the one re-aligned.

Other parts of the budget:
- If the second stage of the Gawler Line is funded, it will include an additional 15 train sets (45 cars).
- The City South stop is yet to be upgraded (I assume in the second half of this year)
- The Train Control Centre will be moved to Dry Creek to allow construction of SAHMRI 2

This seems to fit. I too have used the Oaklands Road alignment.

Good to see electric buses being manufactured in Adelaide. And export orders.

First Australian made, designed, engineered electric bus rolls off production line in Adelaide.
The first Australian designed, engineered and manufactured electric bus to be used on a public transport system in Australia will be launched by Premier Jay Weatherill in Northern Adelaide today.

The bus, one of two electric buses and two low carbon emission diesel buses to be built by Precision Buses with the support of a $2 million Northern Economic Plan grant, will be used as part of a citywide trial on Adelaide’s main public transport network.

The success of this advanced manufacturing project has led to an agreement for an additional 50 low carbon emission diesel buses to be manufactured for supply interstate, creating new opportunities for Northern Adelaide component suppliers and workers.
To date, the joint venture has created jobs for 29 workers, with the business anticipating to create up to 75 jobs as the operation scales up. Through the Northern Economic Plan bus project, $1.1m has been spent on South Australian suppliers and vendors, with a further $4.7 million to be spent over the coming year through the 50 bus contract.

The launch of the South Australia-made electric bus comes after the State Government launched its $200 million Future Jobs Fund. The fund supports job creation initiatives and projects across five key growth industries – including advanced manufacturing.
Background
Precision Buses, a South Australian-based joint venture comprised of Precision Components Australia and Bustech, is designing, engineering and manufacturing the buses. ZF Lemforder Australia is providing the joint venture with specialist engineering, manufacturing and supply chain development support.

The trial will provide the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure with information about how electric and low carbon emission buses might be used as part of Adelaide’s main public transport network.

The 50 additional buses are currently in build and will see both manufacturing operations and the supply chain developed over the next 12 months, with buses exported to New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria.

There was an industry briefing today on DTPI's Forward works program to 2021.

Nothing new hinted at there. It seems a bit tight to still be refering to the "North-South Corridor Planning (10 yr Strategy)" yet not plan anything (even vaguely) in the forward work plan beyond what is currently in construction and the Regency Road section to have any work on them before mid-2021. Surely if the ten-year strategy is to be met, then it should have Next Stage 1, Next Stage 2 and Next Stage 3 planning/design in each of the next three financial years with the construction taking the following three years for each stage. I think that would take delivery of the last stage out to about the end of the ten years.

If we can do continuous build for ships and eventually submarines, there's no good reason not to do it for roads too, and keep the skilled contractors employed in SA.
