New student apartment proposal for North terrace. I'm concerned about how this will be designed given its by Urban Nest and what they built opposite the casino. I'm going to think positive though. The 2 buildings to go are shown below and are very average.

Interesting, lets hope they can up their design game, urbannest opposite the train station is so sterile. This would be a big change to the skyline with Eclipse also approved a street behind (assuming both go ahead), looking forward to the renders.

Happy for the building where Radio Adelaide is to go, but Elizabeth House next door is worth keeping.

Its the 2 buildings in the middle. Not sure which building Elizabeth house is but if its the older style building on the left that is currently being renovated for Australian Fashion Labels.

My understanding is that Elizabeth house is the taller of the two buildings that you've mentioned. Currently there's an optometrist at ground level.Ben wrote:Its the 2 buildings in the middle. Meh, both of those buildings look butt ugly to me, I wouldn't be sad at all to see either go.
I assume "Elizabeth House" was built in the 50s? I can sort of see why some people might like it with those angled windows, but I really don't care about it.
Wouldn't mind seeing some new buildings pop up and densify the blocks between North Terrace and the mall and also Rundle Mall and Grenfell Street which are overall quite flat and low rise, although there don't seem to be too many sites that aren't heritage buildings or shopping arcades (though I'd love to tear down Southern Cross Arcade and build a tallie with retail there, but that's another topic), so this would be a welcome addition as long as the design is good.

I too would love to tear down the southern cross plaza. The site fronting King William St was in 1969/70 was proposed to become Adelaide's Tallest building 0f 40 Stories named Apollo Square. instead after years of stuffing around
we ended up with the fake oldie worlde 3 story piece of trash.

I've known about this for a while with a little insider knowledge. I'll try and dig up what information I am able to give out. I know that the floorplans have already been drawn as have renders.

A couple of years ago there was word of a $70 million development for Southern Cross Arcade. Haven't heard anything since though. It's a matter of time really before the arcade is replaced with something far greater, the location is just too good.
In the meantime the food court is very popular with the lunch time crowd and full of different authentic food options, I always go to Southern Cross. It's just the building itself that is underwhelming.

I'm also a little sad to see Elizabeth House go, it's been well-kept over the years. I'll be quite annoyed if what replaces it looks like a piece of crap, that's for sure.
As for the building next door, where are Radio Adelaide relocating to? Am I to assume to the University of Adelaide own(ed) the building?

Not to take this too far off topic...
With such a large block, I've always kind of held hope that a brand like H&M or even Zara would buy the arcade and build something to suit their needs and incorporate other retail into the precinct.
Cheap As Chips could move into the old David Jones building so they're not at a disadvantage.

As part of this proposal there will be a food court.

I think (just speculating) that organisations like H&M and Zara are in the retail business, not the real estate business. I doubt that they would buy real estate with a view to building a store. They might sign an interest in a lease on a proposed development.Patrick_27 wrote:Not to take this too far off topic...

does anyone remember whether the Eclipse proposal next door has one as well ? Otherwise this is just replacing the one currently in there...Ben wrote:As part of this proposal there will be a food court.
And this might be built way before Eclipse gets off the ground....
